This was quick; I was hoping a couple of months like the G10 but, now it rests between Core and Flair, part of its family and original lineage.

I was always surprised this was still in the product line being such an old tool and design

But then I was lucky enough to get one and saw what a great tool it was .... and of course no other MT like it

But what are you doing Leatherman?   ??? ..... What is its replacement?

I have seen one at a leather goods shop here in Australia.

I went today to try my luck.

Got a brand new made in 2013 crunch, a 2014 juice s2, a Mako ti and a Cam for a very good price.

All brand new, all old stock from an authorised reseller.

Can't complain.

For the desperate, they are $188 on AliExpress with free shipping from China.  I noted earlier in this thread that the one I received (then $156) is a legit Leatherman Crunch.  They went up $20 since yesterday.

Same here.  A user and a back up (or two).

I really hope there’s an upgraded Free Crunch on the way.

:iagree: a new locking plier tool would be more exciting than a lot of stuff that has released recently :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh

If based on Free tech then it would also be slightly bigger as well :dd:  :like:

As a result of this international crisis, I have increased my hoard of Crunches to 2x NIB sealed in the box, 1 open box NIB and one more to sniff, fondle and cuddle.  That should sustain me through 2024.  Not sure what will happen after that.

Not all of us are pipefitters or ranch hands.  I can count on zero fingers the number of times I have actually needed an EDC Crunch.

Plus, as a daily driver MT, the Crunch is not an awesome design with its limited, inside-opening tool set.  That's prolly why it is leaving production.  It is not much better than any standard locking pliers, and in many respects not as good (price, complexity, availability, deploying from closed, etc.).  Joe Pipefitter would almost surely rather have a $15 pair of vice grips.

So collecting, hoarding and reveling in the engineering and history of these cool little machines - rather than doing the pipefitter or ranch hand thing - is probably its primary use for most people.  And that is a wholly legitimate use.  That is especially true now that they will probably never be made again, and is why I want to have a few in the stable before they are gone forever.

I can tell you that, as a facilities director at the YMCA, I used the heck out of my LM Crunch. I EDC'd it along with a Surge, Wiha 1/4" double ended bit kit, LM ratchet extension, and both versions of the 4" Knipex pliers. The Crunch got me out of jam after jam, usually turning screws that were hopelessly stripped and needed replaced. Yes, a pair of cheap vice grips would have done the same thing, but then I would not have had as much room (and tools) in my pockets.

Now that I have a different job, the Crunch is a fun thing to have but no longer an EDC. I do take it along when going to camp or when I think it might come in handy. A couple weeks ago when my wife's car wouldn't start, I grabbed it. Turned out to be a life saver when the battery terminals would not cooperate.

Recently my son's Crunch arrived for Christmas. He hadn't wanted one until I told him it was now or never. I'm sure he'll leave it NIB.

Just don't understand why LM has to completely discontinue it - why not do a run every couple years??

And I do NOT want a Free based Crunch either. Some of us are old school and don't want everything to be new fangled. A larger, super-sized Crunch would be insane though!

Craig

I’d be quite happy with a new version of the Crunch that wasn’t based on the Free designs, but I don’t know how much time and money Leatherman are devoting to traditional designs these days.

A slight size increase would definitely be welcome, along with a saw or T-shank holder.

I suppose as the Crunch is probably carried as a secondary, speSmurfpillst, or back up tool, a one-hand opening blade isn’t essential.

We can only hope Leatherman are getting the holiday season and the Arc launch out of the way before launching a new Crunch.

I sent Leatherman a used Crunch today for warranty.   I did state sentimental in the form, but added that if they have to replace it, it is okay.
I hope they can replace the file.  If they replaced it, I wonder what I would get?  :dunno:

Rest in peace ColoSwiss, you will always be remembered.

Honestly i would think that they have spares for it. it would be interesting to see if they dont have parts or spares left whit what they would replace it, there isnt anything similar current production (maybe MR Crunch)

I will provide an update when the warranty is complete.  It will probably be January 2024 now though.  :hatsoff:

I enquired with the Uk warranty agent about a year ago (after the Crunch went out of stock here), and they offered me the choice of a Skeletool, Rebar, or Wave+

You’ll probably be okay for a repair or replacement over there.
