Made in the former Czechoslovakia back in the 1970s, 1:43 scale.  Really well detailed.

There were a ton of different variants--red/white, blue, red/blue, red/black, military, communal/municipal, and all of these with and without loaders. I think mine is the most common.



However, it appears that at some point, another Czech company acquired the tooling and is still producing it to this date, so some of those variations may be later.

I have a crane and forklift here somewhere. Been meaning to add a few more. Here in the States, Schylling imported them shortly, as did a few smaller retailers, each for just a short period. The Zetor wind-up tractor I've wanted since I was a kid, and at least it's common here in the States. The others, not so much.

Yes. It has been Tatra. Invented for passenger cars and still being used in trucks. Probably the best chassis for off-road truck. That's why Tatra is leader in special and military vehicles.

Yes, an interesting and solid design for off-road it seems.

Now that you mentioned it I have a wake recollection of hearing of few Tatras been tried for logging and gravel transport down here back in the ’70’s or ’80’s. They did not fare so well against Sisu who has the King (might still be) for logging duty and suffered engine issues (lack of power/over heating) when pushed in gravel duty against Sisu, Scania, Volvo et al.

In those days the haul weight was determined by available space and speeds by driver courage so those trucks really worked for a living.
For instance MB had a sterling reputation in central Europe but was not so highly valued here. It only did what it said in tin, over stress/over work it and it would break. Not like a some Cummins Sisu who was build like a brick outhouse but simply would not surrender.
