What amazed me more than anything is that all the date codes of each Supertool matched each other :o I just assumed that a few of them would be a month or so different here and there :D

Back in those days, Leatherman actually paid attention to what they were doing ...  :pok:

Poncho,  could you post a pic comparing the shiny and Matte files in BO. I'm not sure if I got that part right on my list.

Poncho,  could you post a pic comparing the shiny and Matte files in BO. I'm not sure if I got that part right on my list.

I took some pics the other night and just haven;t had the chance to put them on here yet but I will put this one for now :tu:

You can see in the pics at the bottom the file either has a matte sort of bead blasted look and the other has a shiny part on the bottom.  It is even apparent in the BO if you look closely :tu:

Nice pics Poncho

I hate when that happens, you take out all your tools , take pictures , put them all away and then realize that you forgot to take a pic of something

Necropost!!

Over the weekend I received an unused OG Supertool that I stole off eBay and is close in date to the one I already had.  Within a 3-month manufacturing timespan, two of the major changes are represented.

SS 0496/0596 saber point, large pivot, hard wire notch, Leatherman USA on plier head, shiny file
SS 0896/0896 clip point, small pivot, hard wire notch, Leatherman USA on plier head, shiny file

The pictures show the older tool on top/left, the newer one on bottom/right:

Also notable are some differences in the "box"-style leather sheath.  One has a chromed snap, one has a brass snap and reinforced rivets that are thicker and have flat heads.  The brass/reinforced one has better, thicker leather and feels much more durable.  I suspect that the differences here are more based on the place of manufacture rather than a difference in timeframe.
