Day 3/60.

Swapped out and used my gifted SwissChamp SuperTimer to open the post.

There's no battery in the clock and this is very much a "Desk Queen" but it's a facsinating tool and it's a nice reminder of a long friendship on my desk. I'll carry my Black SwissChamp for the rest of the day.

No pics from the apple duty but one from an after-work walk in the park  :hatsoff:

The width of the SC is still just ok for me when peeling an apple for example.

Thanks Barry. TBH it’s nice to see a good start to the challenge and some decent SwissChamps doing everything they do best.

Day 3 of 60 (bonus poultry action shots):

Yes.... it's a challenge and there will be chicken.....

I've done this with a Swiss Champ before, but I'm not sure if I pieced it out or Spatchcocked it.  Regardless, the chicken fell to pieces before the might 91mm blade.

When I first started using the Swiss Champ's main blade, I thought the handle was too large. Now that I'm accustomed to using it, I sort of enjoy the big base it provides. I'll try to pay attention to that as the challenge continues.

Hot day here and the chicken got cooked on the grill.

The one drawback here is cleaning the S'champ. With chicken, one wants to be thorough in cleaning (I assume Fuzzy isn't reading this thread, but the advice would apply for him too. Maybe especially.), but dang there are a lot of nooks and crannies in this knife.

I left the tinder in place. I kinda want to see how it stands up to a month or so of continuous carry. However, for Fast Bill, I will use a bit of tinder at some point to get a fire going. I've tested it once (the orange, not the grey) and found it to work well.  :tu:

Question for Nix and the other SAKnights here:

I'm pretty sure my 1983 7-layer Champion c doesn't qualify for the Go BIG Challenge, so is there another challenge coming up I could use it for?

It's been a long time since I've put miles on it and would like an opportunity to carry it for a month.

Thanks!

A trick that I picked up from a fish scaler user is to put the body of the knife in a plastic bag and leave the blade out.  Keeps the body clean and lets you use the tool without having to clean the whole tool.

Day 4/60.

Today is Wenger Wednesday so I got out my Wenger Evogrip 54 to open some post which I believe is allowed under The Rools wot Nix said. At 10 layers it must count. It is a proper shelf Queen though and I picked it up as a bit of an orphan for my collection in a local gun dealers for the sheer curiosity of it. Wenger was by then history.

It is a beast though. As others have said elsewhere Wengers design team must have had it in for their customers because whilst it's impressive in scale it isn't very friendly when accessing the tools. The sequence of tools across the layers also looks like the designers threw them across the workshop and whichever landed nearest to the frame got used first. Not especially intuitive or in quite the right place.

I like it for what it is but the SwissChamp is a much more sensible proposition. I have heard that the Blackburn Beverly transport aircraft from the 1950's had a plaque in the cockpit which said "Built and designed by ..." and pilots commented it was made in that order. The Evogrip 54 feels a bit like that.

And Nix, I shall be interested to see how you get on with the tinder thing. It's good to see the screwdriver space getting some clever thought lately with this and the new range of Vic driver tools.
