I’m officially in theCurl club :-).  If I decide I like it, carrying the Curl will reduce my usual edc by two items…a Delica and a SAK…not sure I can give up carrying a SAK though.  By all appearances the Curl seems like a nice tool.

I agree too. There is something about the Curl that makes it very cool. I'm liking it more everyday.

YES !!

... and it may not have all the tools everyone wants, but it has all the tools I need as an edc, in a slim & good looking package.

Thinking aloud for those of us who really like the concept but are strapped for cash, how easy would it be to mod say a Charge to make a 'Curl'?

Impossible because the Charge has locking levers etc. Besides why would anyone want to take a more expensive multi-tool and change it into a lower end product.

Because they can't afford two? Been two years without work. It would be nice to have a light urban build for day to day which can be converted back to the full build if going out into the countryside.  Please note this isn't a complain about the capabilities of the Charge I own, just wondering aloud.

Depends on what you mean by making a Charge into a Curl. Are you just looking to lighten your Charge, or do you also want the Curl's slimmer profile? You could certainly remove two of the blades (I assume, never having modded or even held a Charge), and that would decrease the weight, but it wouldn't make the Charge any thinner.

I'm not familiar with the Charge's construction (regarding the aluminum/titanium scales and how they're attached), so I can only base my reply on my familiarity with the Wave. I think you could, in theory, convert a Wave into a Curl-like multitool while retaining the functionality of the inner tool locks.

But it would be a one-way, no-turning-back conversion. It would involve using a Dremel or other cutting tool to cut off the outer panels (where the tool's name is printed) that cover the blades on one side of the Wave. The locking levers would (again, in theory) still work because they are pinned between, and lock into, the inner panels of the handles. This would leave you with a Wave with one less tool layer, but it would be very uncomfortable to hold unless you then added a custom scale or plate where the layer used to be--which defeats the point of removing the layer (as far as making the tool thinner is concerned).

I'm not convinced it's worth doing, especially to an expensive multitool like a Wave or Charge.

By modding a Charge into anything isn't making it a lower end product ??? The person doing the mod is making something that suits them better and in some instances making the tool much better than what they began with

The thing with modding is, unless you have several donor tools for cheap, that it usually costs more to do a mod than what the original tool cost  :-\ sometimes not  but as stated above, it would probably be an irreversible mod and maybe not possible with a Charge  I know that Sam had done some amazing mods using Waves and made tools similar to a Curl but he has several donor tools he has bought on the cheap to get results with :tu:

 :iagree:

It's always best to try this sort of experiment on a sacrificial piece first. You wouldn't want to permanently alter your primary multitool only to find that you don't like the result.

I would only do what I suggested with a cheap or old tool, or better yet, with a set of Wave handles off of eBay. I've bought a set of Wave+ handles for $7.99 USD before!

But as far as modding a Charge to be easily convertible to a Curl and back again, I'm not sure that's possible.  :dunno:

Well, I wasn’t going to buy one but a good friend gave me one.

First impressions.

The good.

The tools on this one seem to be a little tighter than my Bond. The tools are finished well and it is slim.

The bad.

The QC is iffy. The handles don’t align and there’s some play when closed. The blade was dull out of the box but that was easily fixed, however the lockup seems to be tight but the liner is all the way against the stop so I question how long it’ll be without play. On a personal note, I despise the new pocket clip. It sticks out much to far from the handle and creates a hot spot.

I’ll carry it for a week and decide whether it just goes in the drawer with the collection or I’ll use it. Right now I’d consider it a $59 tool at best. The Bibury and Multiforce are better buys but both are heavy. If I want something light I’ll carry a Skeletool. I still don’t understand the market for this one unless it’s just to fill a gap between the Wingman and the Wave.

Here’s the picture so you know I have one.

I’ve been carrying mine for the last couple of days.  I like it.  It’s a little heavier than my Bond, but with the pocket clip I don’t notice it and I like that it allowed me to carry two less items in my pockets to work.

I love that pocketclip. It is the main reason I bought the Curl. The integrated design and the ability to be removed easily for those who don't like it is great. I wish LM can continue this design in their future releases and wish Victorinox can learn this idea from LM - the lack of a pocketclip is a perrenial complain from many Vic users.

I agree…the pocket clip was the determining factor in my decision to purchase the Curl.   Without the clip, I would not have bought it.

Quite a difference of opinion here! One person says they despise the Curl's pocket clip, and two others say it was the reason they bought the Curl!  And that's OK!

I personally find both the Bond and the Curl to be a bit too large and heavy for pocket carry, although I have tried little with both. I also partially agree with gadgetman in so far as removing the Curl's pocket clip made it much more comfortable to hold.

I'm the opposite - since I purchased my Curl, I haven't touched my Skeletool.  They both feel the same in my pocket, and the Curl has better pliers and more tools.

I've never owned or even held a Skeletool, and I don't have any plans to do so. If the Curl is too expensive for what it offers (according to some), then the Skeletool is definitely too expensive for what it offers.

I don't think so, but I don't think the Curl is too expensive either. :dunno:

I would not carry the Curl loose in my pocket.  Definitely too heavy for me in that regard, but clipped to the pocket (even in a pair of sweatpants), I don’t even notice it.  That’s why I like the clip so much.  It allows me to carry a pretty capable tool without me being constantly aware of it.  I like the Bond for the same reason.

Not to mention clip carry  frees up pocket space.  If the Bond and Curl didn’t have the pocket clip, I’d probably just pocket carry my PST.  In fact that was my original intention until I tried the Bond with the pocket clip and liked it so much.
