I think I have just enough to do this. I know I've got over 30, but some are partially disassembled or damaged so not really usable. I guess we'll find out near the end of the month!

Sorry, I can’t make this one - I do not have enough SAKs… I feel sorry for the unused ones in my collection so I tend to sell those I do not carry at least occasionally and the herd is rather tiny (for MTO standards).
But probably even if I count all ever owned I would not come to 30…
But definitely looking forward to join some other future challenge!

For this challenge, I don't believe you need to show them in use. Even the partially disassembled and damaged ones have a story to tell. Nice to have you in the challenge!

Hopefully we'll do the Minimal SAK challenge in January 2022.

So is it just you, Jackpine, and me for this, starting the day after tomorrow?

If so, that's fine. I'm looking forward to seeing some SAKs and hearing some stories about them.

Time to start this show!

Day 1

I bought this Super Tinker back in 2008. For over 12 years, it went almost everywhere with me and performed myriad tasks along the way. When I was too lazy or hurried to get regular tools, it was at the ready. I'd sometimes forget to put my utility knife in a fresh pair of pants, so the Super Tinker opened more than a few boxes at work. It also popped off numerous beer bottle caps and cut numerous pieces of paracord.

Much changed in those twelve years. I held several jobs, earned an Airframes and Powerplants certificate, and left California for Michigan. But the Super Tinker remained in my pocket through it all.

Earlier this year, I noticed it wasn't cutting paracord so well anymore, so I decided to get another SAK (which I'll show tomorrow). The Super Tinker is now largely retired from the role of carrier, but it'll be staying with me until I'm gone. Where others may see just an old used Swiss Army knife, I see a steadfast and faithful companion.

Day 1

I had a different SAK set out for today, but changed my mind this morning. I woke up and found fresh, warm blueberry & cheese danish in the kitchen. What a great wife!. So I decided that the blue alox bantam would be perfect to go with blueberries. This is my only alox bantam. I bought a few of these to gift to city dwelling brother in law's a while back. I liked the size so ended up with one for myself. It makes a Cadet seem like a big knife!

:iagree:

Those Danishes sound amazing, and the blue Alox Bantam is great. I have one with Swiss Knife Shop's logo on the engraving panel. Does yours have a logo?

Nice knife with history!
Thanks!

Exactly like mine. The ones I gave away were silver. I carried one of them a bit before I finally mailed them off. You know, to make sure they weren't defective.     :dunno:
When I decided I needed one, the SKS were just out so I scooped one up. I think I've only carried it a few times so far.

Great start and a lovely bantam!

FarmerX do you prefer to not sharpen the scissors or is this something we shouldn't question

Day 1

And we're off!

I'm going to start small and work my way up. My goal is to carry each SAK for the day and use it.

Today I have my blue Classic SD. I bought it in June at a local junk store for $1. It's the only solid blue SAK I have and I'm still not sure about the color. I think it's the shade of blue I'm not wild about. I have a Champion with translucent blue scales and I like those.

Today's use included opening several cardboard boxes and cutting plastic straps holding shipping totes closed.
SAKs:
58mm: Bijou (3), Classic SD (7), Mini Champ Plus (mod), Alox Classic SD, Rambler (3), Companion
65mm: Wenger Esquire
74mm: Executive (2)
85mm: Traveler, Delemont S10, Bass
91mm: Champion "c", Swiss Champ (4), Explorer (3), Deluxe Tinker, Huntsman, Serrated Spartan/Weekender, Explorer Plus, Deluxe Explorer Plus (mod), Outdoorsman Plus, Champion "a", Champion Plus, Timekeeper Alarm, Golfer
93mm: Pioneer Alox

OK, I'm curious about the scissor sharpening also.
Question away!

In the interest of fairness and full disclosure, my sharpening skills are iffy at best. It wasn't until after I'd bought a few new SAKs that I saw Felix Immler's scissors sharpening video. Buying a new SAK was the right course of action; if I instead bought sharpening gear and tried to sharpen the Super Tinker's scissors, I'd have really smurfed it up.

However, I'm thinking of sending the Super Tinker in for a cleaning and sharpening. After such faithful and exemplary service, I'd say he's earned it!

Today I have my blue Classic SD. I bought it in June at a local junk store for $1. It's the only solid blue SAK I have and I'm still not sure about the color.
I like it! From the photo, it's hard to tell if it's blue or dark blue/original sapphire. I'm guessing it's the former...I have an example of each, and I initially thought my dark blue/original sapphire was black.

Sounds like you gave the classic a good workout. I only have a few blue cellidor, but there's definitely some funky looking shades. Great start  :tu:

Day 2

As promised, this is the SAK I bought intending to cut lots of paracord: the Wounded Warrior Project Fieldmaster. When I bought it, it was one of the least expensive 91mm models Knife Center was selling...maybe the least expensive. Being able to show support for a worthwhile cause came as a bonus. I would later come to find out that the wood saw is a brilliant piece of engineering...though not with this particular knife. I also decided to get a WWP Fieldmaster to preserve, and soon found myself buying more and more SAKs...buy hey, that's how it goes at MTO. Even before joining, I realized that!

Today's photo is an attempt to replicate those often posted by Chidling and Vinz Clortho.

Day 2

Today I carried the red Cadet. I always have a rambler on my keys just in case. I had to haul hogs today so busy driving most of the time. I did use the blade to open a bag of jerky and the file to repair a fingernail I ripped on a door chain. Had packages to open once I got home and the cadet got it done. I like the cadet, it's like a mini pioneer. I've used the can opener on this one quite a bit and even though it's small it works great. Once a buddy and I rewired a utility trailer in a rest area using just a cadet.
