Day 2

As promised, this is the SAK I bought intending to cut lots of paracord: the Wounded Warrior Project Fieldmaster. When I bought it, it was one of the least expensive 91mm models Knife Center was selling...maybe the least expensive. Being able to show support for a worthwhile cause came as a bonus.

Thanks for supporting them.

Good luck to all in the challenge!

The best men carry pocket knives, and then he gave me one.

Question away!

In the interest of fairness and full disclosure, my sharpening skills are iffy at best. It wasn't until after I'd bought a few new SAKs that I saw Felix Immler's scissors sharpening video. Buying a new SAK was the right course of action; if I instead bought sharpening gear and tried to sharpen the Super Tinker's scissors, I'd have really smurfed it up.

However, I'm thinking of sending the Super Tinker in for a cleaning and sharpening. After such faithful and exemplary service, I'd say he's earned it!
I like it! From the photo, it's hard to tell if it's blue or dark blue/original sapphire. I'm guessing it's the former...I have an example of each, and I initially thought my dark blue/original sapphire was black.

Felix's video is great! I managed to fix a seriously messed up pair of 91mm scissors after watching that video. (It was a used Explorer and it looked like the previous owner had run the scissor blades through a pull-through knife sharpener. There was an angled cutting surface on both sides of each blade!)

The blue scales definitely are not dark blue. I'd call them a royal blue.

Day 2

Switched to a black Classic SD today. This was an eBay purchase back in July, so not as cheap as the blue Classic yesterday.  :(

I had a few Classics already, all red, but was on a black kick after getting a black Champ, Explorer, Climber, and Executive. I spotted this one for a good price.

I was off work today so not as much chance for use, so the only use it got was some nail maintenance. I'll spare you the photo of that.

I was thinking today that between the three us in this challenge, that's 90 SAKs! Way more than any other challenge I've done. Definitely looking forward to seeing this progress during the month.

Today's photo is an attempt to replicate those often posted by Chidling and Vinz Clortho.

Nice! Chidling and Vinz do share some great photos. But it looks like they live in a national park, so that helps a lot.

Once a buddy and I rewired a utility trailer in a rest area using just a cadet.
That's one of the best SAK testimonials I've yet heard. Nice Alox Cadet, too!

Maybe more, if we add bonus footage or very similar pairings. Your black Classic SD looks pretty good. (I have a Classic that used to be black, and a few black Classic SDs that all have logos.)

Day 3

Today I bring you the walker. It's one I don't really ever carry, except today.Shame though, It's a great little knife, but I just always seem to have better options available to cover the day's tasks. Here it is today opening mail and hanging out on the jeep. A minimalist tool on a minimalist vehicle!

I'm attempting to carry the SAK of the day and not just snap a picture.
My goal is to cover not only 30 different Saks this month, but 30 separate models, if possible. I will also try to throw in some bonus pics if you awl don't mind.

30 different models would be awlsome. I'm not sure I can do that. Your Walker is a good one; lots of utility in that slim frame. And you have me curious about the Jeep, too!

Day 3

I have about 30 years of history with SAKs, but only started getting into Alox this year. This Pioneer is the one that pulled me down that path. I got it in a trade with a member on another knife forum and quickly came to appreciate its good looks and solid feel. It's somewhat notable for being my only user SAK that does not wear a paracord lanyard. The Victorinox lanyard was on it when I received it, and will not be replaced until it falls off. These days it lives in my Always Ready Pouch. Today it was called upon to get a new air fryer oven ready to use.

The more pics, the merrier, as far as I'm concerned.

Day 3

My other black Classic SD. I bought this one at my favorite junk shop, another $1 special. As it was the only SAK they had, I couldn't just leave it there, could I? Not a mark on it, I don't think it's been used.

Back to work today, so a lot of cutting of plastic straps again, as well as opened the mail with it.

I want to visit that treasure shop! An unused Classic SD with a logo for only $1 is a screaming deal.

I'm close (at least 90% of the way) to 30 different models. Tomorrow I'll take a good comprehensive inventory.

Day 4

This morning the woodsman and I went out and filled the woodstove, then made some bacon and eggs. The woodsman opened a fresh pack of bacon but wasn't needed for firewood.
This one is from Bugnard. It's probably the thinnest sak with a saw. Not as thin as the bantam, but close. Plus a bigger saw than the Walker.

The jeep is a 1990 Wrangler.
Is it s 4-cylinder or one of the last ones with the venerable old 258 AMC six? I'm guessing it has a 5-speed. I've thought about building a YJ into the ultimate Michigan-Mobile...

The woodsman opened a fresh pack of bacon but wasn't needed for firewood.
The gold Alox is really nice! I'll hunt down one of those eventually...probably likely far into the future.

Day 4

I took inventory earlier today...I'm one model shy of 30 if you don't count the Classic SD as a variation.

Today's SAK is a Rambler. I assume it's the same shade of blue as the Classic SD that SteveP showed on Day 1. Not much of a story to tell, and I've only had it for about three months. I saw it offered at a good price, and as it is blue and has a logo, I accepted the seller's offer. This one is more of a display piece than a user, but I did open up an envelope with some fresh paracord. The yellow camo will be seen again during the course of this challenge.

Just lurking about, taking in the photos and discussions. I only have 3 SAKs (4 if I count the Rambler in my wife's purse), and I bought them for my scissors comparison thread. But I have become a believer in the utility of SAKs and am interested in learning more about them.

Day 4

A Classic SD two-fer today.

The first is an Alox Classic SD. I got one for Mrs. P a while back and liked the looks of it enough that I decided to get one for myself.

Because it's so thin, I'd planned to put it in a pocket EDC kit I was assembling, but then the plan took a big turn and I ended up using a different 58mm (to be seen later).

Today I used it to cut some cord to tie up the garden hoses as I put them away for the winter.

The second is the Gingerbread Love 2019 Limited Edition Classic SD.

Mrs. P and I have an older Cocker Spaniel, Louie (second photo). His favorite toy is a stuffed gingerbread man. So when I saw this LE on eBay back in June, I had to get it. I don't carry it, it just stays on display with some other SAKs on my desk at home.

No more Classic SDs after this, I promise.

Obviously the best thing to do is buy at least one sample of each variety currently manufactured. Then search out all of the retired and rare models that you can and buy them. Then you can start buying multiples of your favorites.

SteveP- you can never have too many classics! I really like the Alox versions, but don't own one. 58mm are usually a second knife for me, to compliment the main carry. I really need those scale tools when carrying a 93mm. I suppose I could just switch out when I don't need the extra scale tools, but I'm not sure I'd remember to make the swap.

Great pic of Louie!

Day 5

This morning I am working in the reloading room so probably won't need a saw. I decided it's a good day for a sportsman. I think this is a great SAK, love the nail file. My wife carries one in her purse.

I'll probably be carrying this swisschamp later today when I'm snow plowing.

What do you think of the color?
I like it. The only SAK colors I wouldn't carry are the pinks and purples, as well as white (simply because it gets to looking very dingy and unappealing with use). I want a blue carrier eventually.

No more Classic SDs after this, I promise.
I like the Classic SDs, too. Louie is a cool dog. I had a Cocker spaniel when I was a kid.

I decided it's a good day for a sportsman. I think this is a great SAK, love the nail file.
The Sportsman is a model I haven't gotten ahold of yet. I will be showing a SwissChamp, though. Hope you didn't have to plow! Just some rain here in the southeastern part of the LP.

Day 5

Sticking with 58mm. This is one I bought because of the pen. I was hoping it might be a Caddy, but it turned out to be a Signature. I don't carry it for fear of losing the pen; I'm not sure how long it would take to source a replacement. Much to my surprise, the pen has black ink.

Day 5

Continuing with the minimal SAK theme, today it's a Bijou. I picked this one up at an estate sale in August. I'm calling it NIB as there isn't a mark on it and it was still in the original box with paperwork.

Got to admit that I don't carry it so no use today.

(But I did use my Swiss Champ while replacing a fill valve in a toilet - scissors to open the plastic parts bag and to shorten the rubber refill tube.)

Day 6

Today I got out the evowood 10. Almost the same toolset as the sportsman, but no pin. Before I went outside I decided to switch to the evolution 10 due to weather.
Funny, we had about 8" of snow yesterday when I plowed, but it was still snowing. It's actually still snowing, but looks like time to get after it. We typically get 120-150" a year around here. That's including all 3 types of snow. Regular, lake enhanced and lake effect.

Fx- the Jeep had the 2.5l fuel injected.
