Finally a day above 10°f.
You're happy with a day over 10 degrees? I'm usually grumbling any time it's under 50!

I will keep on posting here and there, and one day I will take the time and start the challenge again !
Understandable. Hope things are well with you, and keep on posting when you get the time!

More great photos from awl!

Minimal SAK Challenge Day 13

12 pounds of cod arrived today, and the Bantam was put on box opening duty again. Tape residue had to be cleaned off the blade afterwards (thus the Zippo fuel). I see a few fish and chips dinners in my future!

Day 13 - Minimal SAK Challenge

Today the Compact scissors helped to cut some pieces of tape to fix a small stell plate for a assembly test

Day 14 - Minimal SAK

No action today.

I visited the Czech National Library so at least used the opportunity to take a picture of the Waiter  in the General Reading Hall, which was built back in 1669, originally as a summer refectory of the former Jesuit Collegium Clementinum

Day 14 Huntsman challenge

Today it's a balmy 12°f so time for more outdoor activity. I took the squirrel gun to the backyard range for some exercise. Used the huntsman to cut pillow ticking patches, no historically correct but it worked great. Also used the large screwdriver to install a new flint in the lock.

Minimal SAK Challenge Day 14

No exciting use today, so the WWP Tinker and the silver Pioneer posed with an equally minimal (and very small) friend.

Yes, the library is good. On one hand, libraries are kind of thing of the past as every book, every piece of information is available online but on the other hand it gives the feeling of real - you can flip through the books, enjoy the silence, sense the concentration of others around you and in this old place you can almost feels the condensed knowledge and wisdom. It is almost like the great outdoors! Real is good.

Day 15 - Minimal SAK

I took the Waiter for a bike ride today (it was around 4°C - 39°F - the temperatures here are nowhere close to the balmy 12F reported by Jackpine54.....) and the Waiter helped to rehydrate afterwards.

The small friend looks great! Do you carry it or any other similar blade-only SAK?

Frankly, I am somewhat puzzled by the blade-only SAK. For example, I am very intrigued by Excelsior - the classy look, almost pebble like feeling of the celidor version... I already hold it in my hands in the shop several times but then my thinking is - would I ever choose to carry it instead of the alox Bantam or the Waiter? The combo tool adds so much utility with no additional bulk... And as I tend to avoid to own non-users, I never bought it, even if it is not expensive.

What are your thougts about blade only SAKs? Are they still SAKs?

The little Opinel is not a carrier. I do carry knives that have only blades, but I'm less inclined to do so these days.

Absolutely they are. They're a great option for those who don't feel the need for other tools, as well as a good introduction for those who dislike SAKs (hard to believe, but there are such folks out there!).

Oh, and 39 degrees Fahrenheit must be nice. We're below freezing here!

Minimal SAK Challenge Day 15

Some HVAC ducting had to be shores up today. Sadly, an electric drill was necessary...I'd have spent forever trying to get those screws to self-tap by hand!

Day 15 Huntsman challenge

Used the camo huntsman's blade to open suet for the birds today. Later used it to cut a fuel line and help install a new one on the old jeep. The hose was stuck to metal line so stripped it off and replaced the clamp with a new one. Small driver worked perfectly. Sorry no pics of repairs, it was 4°f, I was laying in the snow and had gasoline up to my armpits  . So while the camo model dries from it's bath, here's a black huntsman standing in.

Just an FYI, I will be bowing out of this challenge due to health issues. I hadn't mentioned it before, but last week I tested positive for Covid. It's such a polarizing subject that I just opted to keep it to myself. Evidently days 5-7 are important as you either really get better of you crash,,,, I took a turn for the worse yesterday ( day 7 ). This morning I had a video consult and was advised to get to urgent care,,, scary stuff lemme tell ya. The verdict is that I have Covid related pneumonia in one lung. They put me on an IV for a while, pumped me up with meds and now I am home. I should be fine now, but just don't have the energy to keep up with a challenge right now. Good luck to everyone!!

Only just catching up with this thread now…really sorry to hear that mate, wishing you a speedy recovery

Day 15 - Minimal SAK Challenge

I realized that I never really gave a chance to the Spartan, carrying It more than a couple of days, a weekend. Time to rectify this.
Today I'm changing the guard. The Compact gives room to the Spartan.

I can't say I've repaired a vehicle in such weather, but I have been bathed in 100LL aviation gasoline!

That's a good-looking Spartan! I may show my lime green one through the course of the challenge.

The combo tool is great. I need to get some new lighting in my kitchen, too...eventually.

Minimal SAK Challenge Day 16

It has been a busy day for the minimal SAKs! Early this morning, I found some solar orange paracord and made a new lanyard for the WWP Tinker. (With help from a Victorinox toothpick, I didn't mangle the key ring; I believe that tip came from an MTO member.) The silver Pioneer opened up a gargantuan (not my word) tub of cheese balls, too.

Day 17 - Minimal SAK

I switched today to my oldest SAK, but please do not expect any vintage or rare beauty, it is 58mm SwissLite. I got it with a purchase of ski pass in the Swiss ski resort which is named on the knife in ~2013.

At that time I was long time one-knife-at-a-time SAK user (I already mentioned in MTO introduction thread that I used Victorinox Mauser from early 90s till ~2010 when it was confiscated by TSA, replaced it with Wenger 179 Patagonian Race which I lost in the woods in 2020) and the SwissLite was first 58mm I ever got.
My impression was that it was just a gimmick, a toy, cheap giveaway..., I put in a kitchen drawer and forgot about it till 2020 when we were heading out for a hike, I could not find the Wenger Patagonian and the only folding knife available was this one. The 58mm is not the typical substitute for the 130mm, it is like David and Goliath, but I learned the 58 is real, useful tool!

I do not it use often though - the Rambler occupies mostly the key ring position, so the SwissLite sits in the console of my car for occasional use on the go, but for the sake of the challenge I put it into rotation (and even removed the Streamlight Nanolight from the key ring to test the light function of the SwissLite).

Only action today so far was nail trimming.
