Why was the Compact discontinued?

It seems that the Compact has likely been discontinued by Victorinox, it’s out of stock almost everywhere. Given the practicality of it, why was it discontinued?

Amazon used to sell them and now they don’t have one even available for backorder. I hope it isn’t discontinued, I’d really like to get my hands on one!

I noticed the same thing about the Executive yesterday. Some brief research found them in stock at a couple dealers for $60, but no longer on Amazon. Not sure if discontinued or just out of stock, but there was scuttlebutt over the past year about it being discontinued. Ambassador still easily available.

The official Victorinox US site still lists them, but shows out of stock with an option to be notified when they are back in stock.

As others have said, hopefully only temporarily out of stock and not discontinued.  It’s tough to get more functionality out of a two-layer SAK than what the Compact provides.

Victorinox seems to be out of stock on several knives. For a couple of months the Outrider was out of stock. I suspect it’s just supply chain issues.

I think in addition to supply chain issues, this past holiday season was probably a big boon to demand as the air travel TSA confiscation cycle creates it a bit. People lose their knives to TSA and gotta replace them.

I’d post the TSA sucks meme, but probably not appropriate with pictures.  ;)

Didn’t realize the Vic Compact went the way of the LM Crunch - out of stock (supply chain issues?) but not discontinued.

Btw, those 2 make a great pair!

  Was looking on Amazon, even Swiss Army and all out of stock.

  Was looking at my orange Manager that I recently found. It's missing the tweezers. *sigh* They are nice to have on hand.

They’ve been in and out of stock several times, starting around Christmas. I noticed a price increase on them as well.

Another reason why stocks may have been withheld. Price increases. The pause gives retailers a chance to update websites and listings.

I've had a hard time finding them too.  Back ordered everywhere.  Maybe time to do can opener to combo like tool mods.

A close friend of mine ordered a BMW car in July 2021. It is still out of stock! It will not be delivered before march this year. And some options (adaptive cruise control, HUD) are not going to be supplied at all.
Aluminium horse shoes? Out of stock!
Bosch refrigirator ordered in November 2021? Will be delivered in March 2022!

Like what I said - they make a perfect pair in price and utility  :whistle:

I dream of the day LM is gonna release a Crunch the size of a folded ST300, but might as well ask for an 84mm Compact in mass market while at it….

That’s nuts. My mom factory ordered the new M240i xdrive in late November. It’ll be at the dealer here in Iowa sometime this or next week!

As of October, the NYC Flagship store had a small stock, but had pulled them from display. The salesperson I worked with told me they were discontinued, along with the 74mm line. I wrote a longer post in the 74mm thread here but I'm inclined to believe they're at at least temporarily out of general production.

I wouldn't put stock into discon. personally, but for what it's worth supply of Compacts in the UK seems unaffected  :dunno:

No need to panic - the shortage is almost certainly due to my recent desire to get one.  I was finally able to get a new one from eBay for $41, so I don't need to buy one anymore.  You can suspect a sudden surge of availability on Compacts at a price point below $41.   :rofl:

that would indeed be a shame.. the Compact is a real nice little SAK. Highly useful toolset.
