The Dean51 Traditional Challenge
Great Eastern Cutlery Bull Nose - Red Micarta
Day 4

It was a pretty boring day here. Washed the motorcycle, picked a few more blackberries for the freezer, went to the creek and caught a few bullheads and creek chubs, took a nap. Dull day I tell ya,,

Sounds like a great day to me

Day 05

RR Barlow with blue micarta scales.  A relatively recent one for me and lots to like about it too.  Great F&F and nice pull on both blades (with half stops to boot).  However it's let down a bit by having both nail nicks on the same side and the pen blade pretty much covers the nick of the main blade.  Not necessarily a problem for all, but this is also a chunky monkey.  I think I'd love this a lot more without the pen blade layer.

It certainly is a nice looking knife   :like:

Day 5

Today I'm showing off my coolest pocket knife.  This Boker belonged to my grandfather, and according to the tang stamp it was made sometime from 1920 to 1930.  My grandfather was in the Navy for 20 years and the Merchant Marines for another 20, and by the looks of the knife, it was heavily used during that time.  I have considered some light restoration work, but I am afraid of damaging it.

Below it is the Cadet I will actually carry today  :tu:

Thanks for sharing that knife with us, Rich

My grandfather also was with the Navy and the Merchant Marines, but only during WWII.

Day 05:

An intense hail storm trashed my rhubarb and tomatoes.  :'(
This Moore Maker stockman was out helping to clear rhubarb, prune tomato branches, and clip jute twine to use in tying up what could be tied up.

The knife got good and muddy, so a little TLC session followed the garden clean up. Arkansas stone and a strop restored the edge. Soapy water got the mud out. Ballistol removed the residual water and oiled the blades, springs, and hinges.

Nice knives and chicken dinners! :tu: The ruinous storm, not so much. :td:

Day 5

An interesting one for today: the Imperial key jack. Yes, that is a key where one would normally see a secondary blade. This one sees very little use, but I did carry it yesterday and today with the intention of getting it on video. I think I did good for $0.99 (plus shipping and tax)!

   Thanks, folks. It was a really brutal hail storm. The worst for a decade or so, as far as I can recall.  :dunno:

The Rocky Mountains are not always generous. We seem to have some extreme weather at times. I'm bummed that awl the work that went into raising some veggies seems to have been lost, but the rhubarb will recover for next Spring. And...maybe....we'll see a few tomatoes later in the Fall. Tomatoes are tougher than they're given credit for.

The good news: my peas and carrots were on the leeward side of the house and were largely spared the icy onslaught.   :tu:
