Good Place To Get Rings

Looking to get  a promise ring for my SO and I know nothing about jewerly or good places to go.

Any suggestions on good places to shop? In the US if talking online retailers.

I know nothing of value beyond a hatred for DeBeers and other diamond companies that have successfully marketed lumps of carbon as a "must have or he doesn't really love you" bullsmurf. 

Sorry, I just hate buying this crap because diamonds aren't rare, they are artificially inflated to appear that way.

Are you looking for a traditional engagement ring (i.e. diamond solitaire), or do you have something else in mind?
