It is definitely not looking good, but I'm as prepared as I can be.  I just got back from Megan's parent's place where I helped them tie down their barbecue, green bin etc.

Anything I am not ready for will have to be an insurance claim.

I've heard that Nova Scotia could be in for a walloping. Hope Def and everyone else in Fiona's path stay safe!

Be careful up there.  Most injuries occur after the storm during cleanup due to clearing dangerous debris, and exertion.  Watch out for power lines, wear boots and gloves, and stay hydrated!

I just read the weather news (and this post) and it made me think of Grant. I hope he's doing fine and just his power is out. We're thinking of  you Boss!

If a little old hurricane is what it takes to bring you back buddy, then I'll take one every day!

Well, maybe every other day.... :P

I'm fine.  We lost power at about 10pm on Friday night, and to be honest, I'm surprised it stayed on as long as it did.

What was even more surprising was when the lights came on about 8pm last night, as the power company estimated our power wouldn't be back until Wednesday.  I suppose that's part of the joys of being near the downtown core.

We got some rain and high winds here, but we didn't get the brunt of it- unfortunately it hit the island at the northern end of my province, a beautiful place called Cape Breton, then proceeded to pound the living smurf out of Newfoundland.

Usually the hurricanes hit mainland Nova Scotia and start to break up, sheltering Cape Breton, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland (not to mention the teeny French owned Islands of St. Pierre and Miquelon) but this one skipped off rhe mainland and just demolished those areas instead.

Since these areas are used to only getting remnants of the storms they weren't as prepared as we were, and the devastation from reported 80-90 foot waves has washed houses into the ocean.

We weren't completely unscathed though- an apartment building in my city lost one wall when the brick crumbled, and it's inhabitants had to be rushed to an emergency shelter in the middle of the night, and the height of the storm.

Other than the power outage, I personally didn't experience any hardships.  I made sure all of my outdoor things like patio furniture, barbecue, trailer, boats etc were all sheltered and tied down, and I did the same at Megan's parent's place.

Earlier this summer the city had cut down a large red maple in my yard which was quite unhealthy.  It always loses large limbs in storms, and one time it dropped a large limb right where I had been standing moments earlier.  If that tree had still been there for this storm I'd have taken some damage, either to my garage or house.

Glad to hear it sounds like you made it out okay Grant. A former work colleague of Mrs. TJ lives in Halifax and she told us that she got pretty much some rain and wind.
I knew my wife was a keeper when she transitioned from calling it a knife thingy to a multi-tool.

The Mrs sister and niece and nephew are down in Florida, and her other niece just moved down like a few months ago, it’s crazy, I mean she has like over 80 bottles of water under her bed and all sorts of stuff but she also lives in a mobile home so if she’s got to go she’s gotta go and can lose the home cause those things aren’t insured..

Thanks Barry!

Megan is safe in Ottawa this week, so it has just been me and the cat dealing with the storm- and she is just as helpful as you'd expect!

I had a couple of cans of cat food and an Amazon box ready in case we needed to bug out!

The up side is that my ex wife has no power (not happy about that) so I have been looking after Eddie, the dog I lost custody of when we split up.  As you can see, he is quite the character!

Yeah, he's getting old now but he hasn't really slowed down much.  He is also known as Edward McPoopoo, Count Flatula, and Arf Maul.

Getting back to the storm, there are still many traffic lights out in Halifax, and still a lot of debris on the ground everywhere.  Everything is slowly being cleaned up, but it's a long process, and we have power crews from Maine, New Brunswick and Quebec here helping- and there are still parts of the city, let alone the rest of the province without power.

We saw some images here and it looked terrible. Hope everyone managed to stay safe and with minimal material losses.

Like I said the Mrs sister and some family is down in Florida, they all scattered, her one niece drove all the way up  to Philly, but the others went to a few others places to hunker down because they are right in the rough of the eye,,
