How do you tote your traditional?
on: March 28, 2023, 01:55:05 AM
So I am interested in starting a small traditional knife collection but coming from Spydercos with pocket clips and SAKs with rings and TEC clips wonder how you would carry one.

Afraid if I just pocket carry it might fall out and get lost.

I usually always carry two,  smaller one in my watch pocket and a bigger one in my front pocket next to my wallet. The wallet helps keep it vertical pretty well.  :tu:

:iagree: with Steve.  Perfect fit for a No. 8 next to my wallet and a smaller one under the cloth I clean my glasses with.

Hmm guess I need some Justin Bieber skinny jeans.

 :pok:

My Carhart work pants and smallish wallet wouldn’t work to keep a Trad vertical. Pockets to big.

Some of the Case knives I saw were about the size of a SAK and would fit in my DP Leather sheath if they aren’t too thick I suppose.

Leather is starting to show some nice character.

As some others have said, I generally carry my trad in my front pocket with my wallet.

Larger trads usually ride pretty well vertically next to the wallet; smaller ones tend to end up horizontal in pocket underneath the wallet.  Either way, the wallet helps hold the knife in place and keep it from falling out.

Been a day or two  but I usually carry a trad in a Sack Up in the bottom of my right front pocket when i do carry one. It is also where my Vic Executive rides :D

I have a couple of the knife rolls as well and they work great to store knives as well

A link to them to see what they are about at the SMKW site :salute:

Also, them being silicon coated helps keep carbon steel blades a but less damp in my pocket in the summer time :tu:

My father carried the same Muskrat pattern pocket knife as long as can remember.
Never lost it!  He was a Professional commercial painter, who wore white painter pants from home to and from work. In the summer he would wear like toe craft navy work trousers and change at job site to bibs that were loose fitting.
His knife and zippo were always in either pocket.

I have always carried a pocket knife sine 8yo.
Jeans front right pocket. Misplaced a couple of times on hay-bailer, but found back tracking as pearl while scales stuck out in bright sun.

Only thing I always developed holes in Jean pockets🙄 (from proud pivot joints). Why I like canoe and Copperhead patterns.

Recently, I found RR sheaths at SMKW in only the medium and small size.  They work great for pocket carry of a slipjoint. Can add a lanyard line/knot of a dangler like many use on SAKs.

A few dollars each!

I wish I better at leather working and stitching or I would make my own.
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

My approach is a little different: I wear tactical pants. That gives me at least six pockets to dedicate to knives and multis. If I want a knife to stay vertical, I'll put it in the pouch shown, which I carry as if it was a slip.

I quit carrying anything that can poke, prod, or jab in my back pocket a long time ago. However, Case has a pattern called a BackPocket. I seem to remember reading that Tony Bose designed it specifically to carry in one's back pocket, next to a wallet.

I carry mine in the “coin” pocket of my tactical/cargo shorts.  It is by itself and the pocket has a velcro close.

Most of my trads fit in my Victorinox 3/4 layer leather belt pouch. I rarely carry anything bigger myself.

I carry mine is a leather organizer  Rarely do mine get to be loose in pocket for no other reason than the organizer accommodates a few items I also like to carry.

I wear 5.11s and Wrangler jeans and have never been worried of loosing anything.

The organizers I use are Diodrio.  So far they have been flawless.  I have one leather belt sheath but I rarely use it anymore since getting the organizers.

If you are already carrying a light/lighter/pen then these type organizers are great at keeping it all organized  ;).

Thanks Steve! I have some more on the bench I am working on right now. Trying to summon the courage to start an Etsy account.
