A friend of mine showed me this knife his grandfather got in Japan ~1945.

Tang is marked:
STAINLESS
ORIENTAL

Stainless is also in the scales in fine print.
As you can see, the box is stamped as well. I tried plugging them in on Google without an results. Figured I'd farm it out to the braintrust.

I haven't got a clue, but those handles look like very good craftsmanship to me, and I'd be surprised if the blade steel wasn't of good quality.
