I have a CE tanto Flash II, but it only has a satin blade.

that im very happy, not because yours has play, but because both the tanto and the tiger striped trident has no play what so ever

Mine is all vertical play.  I think I would use it a lot of it was solid, but it really bugs me so I just don't. 

I can't even send it in for repair as I would be worried that I wouldn't get it back due to customs.

But a note on the finish: My first SOG knife was actually a tiger striped Trident. I haven't used it lately as much as I used to (but that's true about all my knives and tools). However, the finish never seemed to deteriorate. It did get some scratches on the tip, but those were probably my fault.

I used to use it to do yard work, cutting big handfuls of tall grass and used it with full confidence. Just put the play out of your head and give the knife some pocket time.

I know you are right, but I have half a dozen other knives with no play at all so I would always grab one of those.

The play doesn't put me off it completely, it just makes it a "poorer" alternative to some of my others.
