Sorry to interrupt the challenge, but can I ask y’all a question?

If a guy (…me) was thinking about buying someone (…myself) an MP600, which one would you get and why?

I would like to preserve my old Multiplier, since it’s in such good shape, and the prices of the MP600 seem pretty reasonable! But there are a few variations and I was wondering what the collective wisdom was on the pros/cons, or the ONE to get, or… whatever I should know.

Thanks!

Marlowe, if I were buying a new one today, I'd get the Basic.  It has the non replaceable cutters but other than that, it's the same tool.
I don't blame you on preserving your Multiplier btw!
Interestingly enough, the new Basic I got my son has "Multiplier" on the handles!

Are the replaceable cutters not worth it then?

thinking about buying an MP600, which one would you get and why?

Although I'm not participating, I do own a fair share of MP's as I like a lot the platform/models. My recommendation would be: first choice would be the Bladeless; full array of drivers, file, scissors, can and bottle openers, needlenose tip. I work in healthcare, and most hospital/facilities frown upon edged blades and/or knives, but other than that it is a very comprehensive multitool in terms of function (besides, I made removable plain and serrated blades that fit in the exchanger and are more than adequate for my uses). My only caveat are the cutters: they're very brittle, and even having one rest on the other while cutting or turning is reason enough for them to chip, crack or even explode in pieces ( and replacing them regularly is quite an expensive proposition). I use mines only on copper wires or very thin gauge steel wire. My second choice would be the Pro Scout, which is a combi blade, bladed Bladeless with regular/integral/basic cutters head and, it sacrifices the large flat driver  for the scissors and also has the saw blade exchanger. Do be mindful that as of today, the saw blades used in the Gerber's exchanger are the old, universal/u-shanked  ones, and must be of the hole in tang variety; still available but not with the variety or ease of the newer t type. (or, as I've been known to do, modify the t ones to fit!). Then the Basic (the "original" one, the true predecessor!). No sawblade exchanger, or scissors but, with a very nice and wickedly sharp utility/Wharncliffe and serrated knives and lanyard attachment. Then the Bluntnose (a Basic but, well, with bluntnose pliers and replaceable cutters. Mind there are still out some with integral cutters like the true Basic). And last to me the Basic/GI with replaceable cutters. Now one last thing, your choice of silver or black oxide, except for the Bladeless,which only comes  in black oxide, or Pro Scout, which only comes in silver color. In the end, your needs will dictate your choice so, any of them will be an incredibly good choice.

Edit- sorry to all for it being soooo long!!! :facepalm: :oops:

Edit (again!?!?)- Although Gerber makes a bit kit for them, if you happen to have a Leatherman bit kit for Rebar/Super Tool/Juice, it works flawlessly on our MP's so, no need to hurry that! Even the ones from Ganzo and similars will also work if the adapter is 1/8" square to 1/4" hex.

Hi Awl,
      Not participating.  Just enjoying the photos and comments.  I'm not sure how Barry did this?  Wham.  One day he says I am doing a challenge and then the fun people just pile in.
      It's like Barry had a convertible, a cooler and some shades.  Drives up to some bored looking young folks standing around.  Says, "Hey.  Anybody want to go to the beach?"  Then the whole bunch jumps in his ride without even thinking.  Turns on some music.  Everybody living it.  Must be magic.  Or something?  Best wishes.  G

I do however have a few Gerber toys ;

The Diesel was 1st G MT and the MP400 was found later at Walmart, looked cute.

But, the MP600 never  caught my eye.   I know it is popular and has devoted fans, as have met several.

I am enjoying the pictures, and Lisa has me yearning for my younger days hanging out playing pool with the pins exploding in the background between ball returns and pin  setters!!!  The video games came afterwards., except Pong maybe. 😁
