Knife Laws
on: February 09, 2009, 05:39:07 PM
Am I the only one who is getting scared about knife laws lately? I feel I have every right to carry the knives I carry and none of them are for purposes other than utility. I have been reading alot of anti knife stuff lately and it makes me worry about the future of our society. I do realize that organizations such as AKTI and Kniferights.org are trying to keep the worst from happening. Still though I am freaking out slightly and I don't like it one single bit. You folks have seen my collection on this forum, I own over 50 one handed knifes with pocket clips, if I could not use them outside of my home I would likely go crazy. I do own several SAK's and traditional pocket knives and will go to carrying them if the worst happens. For right now I am going to rotate SAK's and more tools into my EDC, maybe edge myself off of my dependency or addiction to tactical style folders. I have taken my Vic Explorer today and rigged it with a clip similar to the Ti SAKKlip that was mentioned to keep my Vic from riding low in my pocket and dangle instead. I know I don't give me SAK's thier due or use my non-one hander's enough and maybe this is a wakeup call for me to realize I have some neat stuff that isn't tactical. Is anyone else worried about what the future holds?

No spyderco's, benchmades, heck even Sebenza....quite frankly it scares me. This Hawaii stuff I think has me spooked the most. I am seeing a decrease in pocket clips these days and it makes me wonder. Anyways, enough rambling, what do you guys think??

David, I'm worried too!  Luckily for me I'm already happy carrying just a SAK or small multi. I have at least 50 tactical folders and if I had to give them up I would be really upset, but I could live with just my SAK/multi setup. With that being said, I dont like my rights being violated and I'm going to do everything in my power to make sure we dont lose our right to carry knives. It's time for a smack in the face wake up if you're a knife lover. Time to do your part and get involved.

I'm already there David :(  I love my Spyderco UKPK but I don't carry it anymore.  It may be legal but I got too many comments and angry looks if I dared to use it in public.  These days its just a SAK and sometimes only a small one.

I could still carry it out in the woods but I can carry a fixed blade in those situations anyway  :-\

Neil
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

Yeah it sucks, it's unfortunate that there are many people who will always find thing to ban/people to screw in order to justify their pitiful existence.  >:(

These are grim times indeed :(

The best advice I can give is to defend your rights and try and make those in power see that there just tool's, and not mindless killing machines ::)

Otherwise before you know it some jumped up lawyer with have your edc ruled illegal before you know it >:(
Give in, buy several Farmer's!!!!!!

While not illeagal , I tend to be discrete about showing pocket clips . Fortunately in my hood , multis and SAK's don't send up any flares . FWIW , that thing in Hawaii is unlikeley to go anywhere , the State Senator in Question is a bit of a nutter . The only Democrat incumbent ever to loose in a district in Hawaiian history . He proposed a bill sanctioning commonlaw unions in a predominantly Catholic district .

I gotta agree , I don't like the trends we are seeing , but if we don't exercise our rights they will die out from dissuse .

You still have to adhere to the law though.  In fact, it applies even more to you as you are meant to be enforcing it.

Exactly!

If they get their way you'd be using billy club and whistle for your duty gear like your brothers in UK.  :P

There is absolutely nothing we can do here in America to stop these laws that get tighter and tighter.  Right now I can and do adhere to the local knife laws  If they were to be amended to be even tighter, and say my Spyderco Delica was illegal to carry for some reason or another, I'll take my chances.

I'm a grown man that works every day and pays taxes, and I know what is a reasonable knife or tool to carry, and when to carry it and where to carry it.  There has to be a point where Americans refuse to obey insane laws.

A local representative here in RI who can barely speak English tried to pass legislation to make it a crime to sell cellophane wrap to anyone under 18.  Other representatives also signed onto that legislation.

Its amazing at the laws these days. I am nervous about the gun laws it seems everyone wants to take away the guns now its knives. I hunt faithfully I fish on occasions and now my knife is at risk. Pretty soon all we will get is a spork at a restuarant to eat with.
