According to Ed Schempp, designer for Spyderco and USPS, Leatherman's champion steel may not be all its cracked up to be!

     That’s the new boomerang heat treatment. You use it for throwing knives that will return to you.

Possible, but unlikely.  Ed is a well known and respected knifemaker who has been supplying designs to Spyderco for years.  He doesn't really seem like the attention hound type.

this was exacltly my first thought. it looks like they tried to run it through an automated machine and it got wrapped around a pulley.

if it didn't break it is extremely impressive and durable. Since they are 0.1" thick I would say it is possible, especially if not heat treated.
