No CASE international sales?
on: December 17, 2024, 12:05:05 PM
Right off the bat, you have to realize that I stay right on top of current knife news.  Yeah, right.  Anyway, I clicked on a link to some CASE knife on a retailer.  There I learned all sorts of good things.  First, CASE knives are not intended to be used on or against humans.  Good to know.
Then I saw this quote.  " Due to Case Knives' new policy, U.S. retailers are no longer allowed to sell outside the U.S.A.! International orders that contain Case knives will be cancelled."

Doubtless everyone on this site knew this already, but it was news to me.  Best wishes.  G

At least I'm not alone in the dark.  Remember when the old men used to say, "All I know is what I read in the papers."  Well, about all IMR knows is what he saw in the now defunct SMKW catalog.  That and whatever friend David Bowen reviews in his section of MTO.  I did see that now CASE is selling a Peanut with a pocket clip.  Kind of like putting a pocket clip on a quarter or a house key.  Makes a cute little knife into an ugly.  Could be that CASE is ashamed to send that sort of uglification abroad?
I hope that is the correct information on CASE international shipping.  I copied and pasted it from the vendor's site.  I did see where the same company is selling a single blade CV folder with maize handles as a "Trapper".  That always was a Sodbuster to me, so you have to take what you read online with more than a single grain of salt.  Best wishes.  G

I'd heard about this and found this discussion over on Blade Forums, from 2021.

Also found this from 2016...

Cases own website says that they don't ship outside the US.

Couldn't find anything on dealers not being able to ship outside the US though.  My guess would be the prohibitive costs of international returns.

Speaking of the CASE website though it shows an astounding number of sold out knives.  Don't they make them in Bradford?
Hey, we're out of the smooth bone medium stockman's.
Let's go down to the butcher shop and pick up some bone.  Cookout tomorrow afternoon.

Grumpys medium stockman will ship day after tomorrow.

I might as well say where I saw the quote that I put in red.  Deadwood Knives.  Don't know anything about them.  Remember, don't stab anyone.  NO STABBING!  Best wishes.  G

Yes, Bradford, PA.  I think they often do runs though, and when a run sells out, they aren’t necessarily making more.

My guess would be the prohibitive costs of international returns.
With regard to dealers not shipping internationally at all, I suspect some have simply concluded as a business decision that the profit to hassle ratio of shipping internationally isn’t high enough to be worthwhile.

With regard to manufacturers prohibiting it, I suspect it is to protect their local dealers from having to compete on price with US-based websites.

Deadwood Knives
I’ve ordered from there before; no issues.

I checked a couple of other sites that ship internationally.  Both did have lists of manufacturers that prohibited international shipment of their products.  Neither had Case listed, so perhaps a recent change that hasn’t been added yet?
