First blood

It is a double feeling. It is nice when your tool is perfect. Then you accidentally drop it on a concrete floor.

First blood.

And it is sort of OK. Not nice of course - but then the pampering is over and it starts to get character.

I am sorry, that is not FIRST BLOOD!

FIRST BLOOD is what occurs when you have tool with a  blade, you just opened the package, admire the entire item, then wipe away your finger prints and close it up!

Then notice red liquid on the table, the floor. On your shirt, trousers, and you think what the heck!!!

And then you see your fingers has a slit across the inside top pad!   Clean up, bandage the digits, then examine your towel or rag and fine a fine slit across the rag right where your fingers were when you…

Knife blade so sharp you never felt a thing. The blade know owns you. Bond for life.

That is the first blood I was expecting to here about.

Having said that, I do know the other as well.  I usually just consider it the inevitable that is to come from using a tool.

It’s a rite of passage like actual first blood. Dropped, dinged, scraped. Tells a story. My Pioneer has also been dropped from a height onto concrete, but thankfully wasn’t dinged up that bad.
