400+ Piece SAK Collection
on: February 15, 2026, 11:08:43 PM
This is more of a question for those who frequently add to their collection on the secondhand market but I want to abide by the forum rules so I’ll include a price.  We are getting ready to sell a very large collection of approximately 470 SAK’s, including the Giant, automated display, cyber tool, XAVT, 125th Anniversary Edition, all the special designs, as well as a few antique pieces and a beautiful storage chest.  Appraiser valued it at $75,000 with the case.  I’d prefer it to stay as an intact collection but I’m pretty sure anyone that could afford the entire collection would already have many of the pieces.  Any thoughts on selling individually or as a whole?

Individually will be a lot of work, especially for the common ones, like the 58s you show.
You may try selling them in "groups" based on size, colour etc.
Also some knife dealers will buy complete collections. I do not know if you will get the 75000 if you sell the whole collection as a lot. Usually the price you were quoted will be if each one is sold individually. If the appraisal is correct, and this will depend on how much the appraiser knew, expect to get half of that or less from a dealer.
You may also want to sell the expensive models individually and give the common ones to a dealer, for example.

I hate to say it, but I believe Deeks is correct.

I am also interested to know what information the appraiser used to come up with that appraisal.  As the best SAK related information available is here and on SAKWiki, I have to wonder where they got their pricing from- not that I am doubting it, but because I'd like to know how much of their research came from our own files here.   >:D

I am going to post a link to this thread in the Swiss Army Knights forum, as many of the knowledgeable members don't really venture far from there and they may have input.
