What is the average price of a Buck like that ?
on: February 27, 2026, 04:17:43 PM
Hello everyone,

Sorry to ask that, but someone have got a Buck knife, and asking me how much I can give to buy it. As I don't have any Buck knife yet, and I don't know this brand, I can't answer, so I'm asking to the MTO community

The handle is like "snake skin", maybe plastic or something, I don't know.

Here's the knife :

I really have no idea what is the value of a knife like this one

Thank you for your answer !

That appears to be a Buck Bantam.

https://www.buckknives.com/product/286-bantam-bhw-knife/?sku=0286CMS24-B

Handle looks like camo.

There are a couple different models in the Bantam family, but as to value, the short answer is not a lot.  I don’t think any of them retail for more than about US $40 new.  And from what I can see in the pic, it looks like that one may have seen better days.

Thank you very much for you very quick answer, nate j   :hatsoff:

As I'm not particulary a Buck lover, I'll not buy it.

Best wishes

That might not be a high-priced knife, but that doesn't mean it isn't a good knife.  If the price seemed within reason (you have to decide that matter for yourself), I wouldn't have any qualms about picking it up.  BUCKs are good knives.  Best wishes.  Gary

Hum... I'm in doubt now... Should I buy it or shoudl I not ?

I asked my wife :

Quote
Darling you got to let me know
Should I buy it or should I not ?
If you say that it is mine
I'll buy it and it'll be fine
So you got to let me know
Should I buy it or should I not?

She told me that my imitation of the Clash was all rotten and that she didn't give a damn :twak:

Well, thank you Darling  :dd:

Thank you Gary, I think that it's not a bad knife, but I'm focused on my LM project for the moment. I will not ;)

I have traded lots of things through the years.  Lots.  If someone asks me what I will give for something, I generally ask, "How much do you want?"  In this case if the owner said $40, I would say I wasn't interested.  If they said $20, then it would depend on whether I liked it or not.  If they said they didn't know what they wanted, but how much would I give, I would say $10.  Maybe $8.  That is assuming the knife is sound and hasn't been ruined by sharpening with a grinder or something.
It doesn't sound like you were impressed with the BUCK.  If you don't like it, and don't want it as something to trade around with at a later date then why bother?  I always picked up knives that were good knives that I didn't have much in whether I liked them well enough to keep or not.  Then when someone had something I did like...  Knife  X at $50 for instance, then I would say I will give you a BUCK and $10 for it.  Assuming I got the BUCK for a small price.
I rarely bought anything with the intention of keeping it.  Sometimes I would keep it a while until the novelty wore off, then go trading.  If you made a good deal to begin with, the chance of losing money is very slim.  The trade was the fun part for me, not putting something in a drawer.  I'm not a knife collector and never was.  I picked up things when they either were a bargain, or when I could trade into them without investing too much.  Personally, I never asked anyone else whether I could have it or not.  That's just me.  You are free to do whatever you feel is right.  Best wishes.  G

That's a $20 knife used according to eBay prices

:iagree: with Steve.  If I could get it for under $20.00 U.S. it would probably come home with me.  On the other hand, it is not something I would be actively looking for so I would most likely pass on it.

On eBay, for some of them, the price of the delivery is much more than the price of the item itself  :-\

Unfortunately,  that is a longstanding “trap”, not just on ebay but other sites as well.  Seller sets a reasonable or even low item price, hoping someone will get excited and buy it without reading the fine print.  Meanwhile, they have set a crazy shipping cost that often exceeds the cost of the item.  It’s borderline dishonest IMO, but I’m sure the seller would point out that they have accurately listed the shipping cost and can’t force the buyer to read it.

Although if this is an international/overseas shipping cost, maybe not ridiculously far off…

When you decide to itch your BUCK side, start with the 110 and/or 112 models.

Those are the iconic folders with lock back handles of wood and brass for the most part.

If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!
