How freakin' bizzare is this?
on: March 27, 2009, 02:14:50 AM
I won a state of Pennsylvania forfeiture/confiscation auction of 10 Wenger knives off of ebay.  When they arrived, I started cleaning them up.

One of them belongs to our neighbor's son.

Now, do I return it?  :D

If you like him, go ahead and give it back. If he's a little pain in the rear, keep it.  >:D

How cool is that?  I would return it to him for free actually, it's not often that you get an opportunity like that.

It will make for a great story.

I plan on giving it back.  Just wanted to add some controversy.  :D

I cleaned it up, polished the scales, sharpened the blade and lubed the pivots.

I want to hear how he lost it.   :D

I think I would open the main blade, and stab it into his front door, holding up one of those "ransom" style notes with the letters clipped from magazines and newspapers:

Here's the follow-up:

First off, it belongs to the older daughter, not the son (Generic first name so I wasn't sure which it belonged to).

She is off to college in Colorado.  She is HUGE into mountaineering, rock climbing, minimalist camping/hiking/trekking and backcountry skiing.  Her grandmother (the whole family lives on the farm) said that she becomes very attached to her gear and that she will be ecstatic to get her SAK back.  She flies out of Philly airport regularly for trips to Europe and Latin America and that's where it was confiscated.  The family is trying to figure out a prank to return it to her.

My wife dropped it off this afternoon.

Unbelieveable.

This sounds like an inspiration to put our names on the knives we carry. Anyone here do that? I personally find it detracts from the tools beauty but it can serve a function as this thread has proven.

However, how many here would expect their confiscated or otherwise lost SAK to be returned to them? Truly it is rare that this would happen. I remember when Smartknives was reselling on eBay he would mention something in his auctions to the effect that he would try to find the lost knife for the customer. I am sure it was to resell it to them no doubt and I wonder how many folks actually asked him to look through his undoubtedly huge stash of SAK's.

Now I have a small bag of personalized knives, mostly classics, and I did sell one on eBay to a guy who the name fit. I asked if he had it confiscated and he said no. His name? Phu Pham! Yes the knife had both the names on it. Now how many guys do you know with that name. I was amazed to find several in a quick Google search. LOL!

I love that idea that is just creepy, evil my type of thing >:D

This sounds like an inspiration to put our names on the knives we carry.

I once read in an article about lawproofing your knife. They made a comment if you put your name on a knife and you end up in court then they are going to look at it like "what type of individual puts their name on a knife/weapon" so it will appears to them you had no intention to use this knife as a weapon but as a tool.
