Free Victorinox Pocket Watch
on: May 07, 2009, 09:15:59 PM
Now before you go getting too excited it isn't working. I'm assuming its just the battery that needs replacing but it has a funny kind of screw in back and I can't open it :(  I refuse to be fleeced by the local jewllers so I'd rather give it to someone who either can get in it safely or knows a friendly jeweller :)  Please also note the strap bit is looking a bit rough, time to get the paracord out and make a new one  :tu:

If you want it you have to post a photo of a really cool watch  8)

Doesn't have to be one you own and you can grab the piccies from anywhere, just needs to be  8) or  preferably both :D

The recipient will be picked at random in very roughly 48 hours.

Neil

I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

Here's my submission:

It's regarded as "the world's most rugged watch" by Hammacher Schlemmer:

Encased in layered steel and fortified with hardened resin, this is the world's most rugged, durable wrissmurfch. The forged stainless-steel case disperses and dissipates direct impacts; resin and rubber rings protect the mechanics, absorbing shock and vibration from anywhere on the watch. The hands are fortified with brass-joining rings that stabilize the hands under extreme pressure and vibrations. Its quartz movement is protected by two rubber gaskets that ensure water resistance down to 660', and the mineral crystal face resists damage from abrading or piercing forces. The stainless steel and urethane band is attached to the case with steel lug screws, and the links are secured to each other using stainless-steel pins. The watch's atomic timekeeping automatically receives and calibrates the most current time from up to five antennas worldwide, and the solar-powered, rechargeable battery converts low-level indoor light or direct sunlight into power that lasts up to five months without further exposure.

Just reading the write-up and damn, I want one of these too! (@NutzNBoltz: You were right... I want one now.)

This is called a Swiss Army Knife. Do you know what Switzerland is? Switzerland is a place where they don't like to fight, so they get people to do their fighting for them while they ski and eat chocolate. - Larry David

Something realistic. I've been looking at this watch, really like it. Swiss movement, titanium casing, sapphire crystal, carbon fiber dial face, 10 year lithium battery. If it had tritium marker and titanium strap as well it'll be perfect for what I want.

And they start at the low, low, everyday price of $275,000. Or you can bump up to ones with more bling for $400,000.

This is the newest addition to my collection.  It is big like a hockey puck not many bells and whistles but then again in my recent years I am starting to like the old style.

In fairness mine is fairly cool.  Titanium body and strap with a solar panel for a watch face.  No batteries for me.

How's it working out for you? It's a neat idea but I wear long sleeves most of the year so it wouldn't get chance to charge.

It's fine, I've had it for three and a half years and no problem.  If I remember the blurb right so long as you don't keep it in a dark drawer for days at a time it should be OK.

Ok, aside from the really cool Cabestan Winch Tourbillion Vertical Watch I posted, here are the ones I own and wear.

My sterile dial, no day/date Traser P6502 which I'm wearing right now:

Citizen BM6400, with a custom glass bead blast finish on the case:

And a Pulsar Chronograph model number PJN305 that I wear once in awhile, I had two and kept one:

I have a Citizen's Eco Drive that I wear under a jacket, I have found if the material isn't too thick then it still gets enough light.

So if you wear light colored long sleeves shirts this may not effect it.
