FROG TOOL SALE!
on: April 14, 2007, 02:19:18 PM
I just got an email from SwissBianco about a sale on at Gatco/Timberline.  The Frog Tool is down to $4.99 from it's original price of $19.99.

I just thought folks would want to know... Thanks Roger!

Thats an absolute steal!

I am so tempted to buy one for my dad, as a handyman its the kind of thing which would prove invaluable since its so simple.

Damn all this stuff is sold in the states at such cheap prices

Hmm, I wonder how much it would cost to ship something tiny like that to the UK.

What is their delivery charge within the states?

I wanted only one but they were charging me $8.00 for s/h so I decided to order 5 (great for bd presents) and they charged the same amount, just $8.00

All depends how much the total cost comes to I suppose, it adding shipping in it comes to a price where it is not such a deal to buy the tool, then thatll put me off it. I'm wondering if there are any alternatives to this that might be sold in the UK or europe...high prices on this side of the atlantic though.

I think they were rare to begin with- I saw them advertised a number of years ago, but haven't heard anything about them since.  I am surprised they lasted this long, or maybe it's just taken this long to sell out of the initial run of them!

My Frog Tools arrived today, and they seem kind of neat.  They are smaller than I thought they'd be, but not a big deal.  I'll post some pics and some initial impressions when I have them...

It's a little big for a key fob, and there's no good place for a lanyard ring or clip without blocking one of the wrench holes.  It does come with an interesting rubber/neoprene type sheath that hold it pretty snugly and really has a potent smell to it!  I saw all kinds of pink elephants when I opened it!

I'll really have to put some "play time" into it before I have much to say about it.

Between that and the SwissTool you are getting, I doubt there will be any mechanical things that are still in one piece around you!

Well the Frog Tool has been riding on my belt for a few days now and to be honest, it hasn't seen a heck of alot of use.  The wrenches seem more set for mechanical or industrial sizes, and less for household things.  That's not a bad thing, but it does limit the amount of use I am going to get out of it.

The other big problem I am having is with my "muffin top."  If you try to wear this thing on your belt and you are storing stuff for winter  ;) then you will get screwdriver marks in your gut.  Of course, the sheath holds fast enough to be worn upside down, or maybe I could just do some situps...  I am going to send mine off to On Scene Tactical to see what kind of things Eric can come up with to fix this.  It seems like a great glove box tool, and maybe well suited to some off road adventuring either in a 4x4, ATV or mountain bike.

So far, it would be handy at $20... but at $5 you should definately consider having one.

What is that one implement sticking out on the far left of your pic? (Not the Torx bit, the other one)

Apparently it is a valve core tool.  I'm not certain what that does, but maybe there is a professional core valver here that can fill us in? :P

The valve core tool is just for unscrewing the valve from a valve stem in a tire.  I used to do it with bikes all the time, & I'm sure you've seen the guy do it at the tire store when he's letting the air out of tire to change it.

Here's putting the valve core back in a bike tire stem.  That's the part you unscrew.

Okay, I see now.

Seems like the Frog Tool would be sorta clumsy to remove a valve core with. On a bicycle tire for instance, the spokes would get in the way, no?

Sure,  but it would be fine on a car or tractor tire.
