whats with all the alox hate lately
What's with all the gushing over alox all the time? I have an alox SAK (Pioneer Harvester) and quite frankly I don't see what all the excitement is about. Sure it's shiny, but that's about it. I prefer celidor.

At the moment I'm really deep into an Alox addiction flare up,and it's not anything logic based.

The first Alox I bought was a Farmer, and I really didn't warm to it,and ended up gifting it to a friend who was looking for a compact folding saw.

I acquired a few through trades, but still didn't really start the bug. I think it was the black Farmer I got off Doc Gonzo, and then the 85 Soldier I got from TaxiDad,and restored that did it.

Oh,and lest I forget it,the custom Boxer Tattoosteve99 built for me

So,yeah, box the Harvester and come back to it in a year or two,you might feel differently. If your unlucky
There is no beginning,or ending, and for this we are thankful, cos now is hard enough to understand!

  some people just can not afford a Harvester, so they have to compromise by buying a Farmer....    :P

I got my silver Harvester on eBay just a couple of weeks ago for about $30 new in box. I don't think that's any more expensive than the going rate for farmers.

this was a joke on the superiority of the harvester for me, mentioned on several occasions, compared to the farmer.
It is common knowledge that they actually cost the same (same number of tools, with only one different tool), so saying that one is more expensive than the other should not be taken as a serious statement.

there was a tongue in cheek smiley next to it as well, but maybe it was not visible in e.g. tapatalk.

Only been collecting in the last few years; but so far the Farmer seems the pick of the (non-modded) alox models. It has most of the 'common use' tools; is a good size to hold/use and the alox scales are magnificent in strength and looks. I agree with the farmer love that goes on here; would not mind a second one of a different colour some day... :)

Ah, sarcasm is easily missed on the internet.

And I would agree with you on the superiority of the Harvester over the Farmer. That hawk bill blade is awesome and useful. Sure the can opener/small driver is great too, but i have other SAKs that provide that functionality. Heck, even the classic I always have with me on my keychain gets close to the diver functionality with SD tip nail file. And I hardly ever find myself actually opening cans. The hawk bill blade makes the Harvester unique.

As I said....here or someplace....I have yet to find a use for the pruner blade. On another forum I frequent, some of the pruner tips have broken and those guys started regrinding them into a Wharncliffe profile.

Here's an example of the mod over here.

Other forums...

So much bad advice on the internet  :D

Go to the general forum of that forum where a 16 year old UK boy is being advice to buy and carry an expensive locking, largish knife...   :D

The pruner blade is not for stabbing and twisting on hard materials, just like a classic Sak blade should not be used for batoning...

I mainly use the pruning blade for opening packages,  clamshells..

The pruning/hawk bill blade excels at any kind of draw cut.

On the can opener I do like the Philips screwdriver and the fact that it is good for peeling oranges. I just ha e to cut open so many packs etc. that the prundr blade is more use full to me.

You have to try a Victorinox pruner. Think of it as a solid, slim slipjoint with two vastly different blades. It gets more pocket time than all my other knives put together.

LOL!  Nah, these guys were sober hunters, fishermen, tradesmen and sheath makers (one is a member here)...experienced knife users. It was honest hard work, not abuse.  If I can find the posts, I'll link them.

I like the BF traditional section.. I may even join one day.
It is a lot more internationally oriented (accepting that there  are decent knife companies outside of the US) than it was 3, 4 years ago..

I have a Pruner and a Pioneer Rancher. They are ok I guess but hey...I have little use for an Electrician blade either. Not that either is bad, I just use a can opener much much more.

Quite the opposite, it excels at slashing, for a draw cut it would require the curvature the other way round... at least if you use it as a sword
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

In that case you should immediately send that godly gorgeous SIN Electrition to me (here it could also discover its roots, I would even bring it to the original SIN location and the new PSI buildings :D)...
