Laptops?
on: June 23, 2009, 05:53:04 PM
I see the buggers everywhere nowadays, and with the prices dropping as rapidly as they did it's obvious why.

I have a Dell Vostro 1000 with a 15.4" screen and an Acer Aspire One netbook with an 8.9" screen.  Who's got a laptop and what have you got?  :D

I really wanted a 13.3 samsung or similar, but for the price I could have got two of the one I did get, and had enough change left over for a couple cases of beer... and anything smaller would have been find for me, but the wife thought they were too small to work on.

I got a Packard Bell something or other from work, and for office and web browsing it's fine but that's all I'm willing to do on it. Watching dvds isn't a pleasant experience the screen just doesn't do them justice :( But then I've got my desktop for doing fun stuff on 8) I'd like a small laptop a 13" screen seems about right to me :)

Fujitsu Tablet/notebook at home (T4215 I think).

Fujitsu U810 at work.  Basically a super netbook.  Have the docking station and huge external HD.  It functions as my desktop/mobile computer.   Actually shipped it on mule back during a climb once.

The BossLady has a Mac Pro.

I bought a Compaq last year for $399. I added 2 more gigs of memory so it's up to 3 now. Dual core/Vista Home Premium. My wife uses it mainly to play Chuzzle and Zuma on. I use it mainly when i travel to watch Hulu and surf the internet.

On a side note ..you would be amazed at how many people don't secure their Wi Fi >:D >:D >:D

I've got an Asus Eee 901.  We don't really get on.  Its size makes it very convenient and the battery life is just astounding but I so wish I'd bought one with an old fashioned hard drive rather than SSD :(

My wife has some out of the ark Samsung that we really should have replaced three or four years back and my boys with have some generic old POS that I was given and need to fashion some means of holding the screen to the base for  ::)  Don't look at me like that they're four and six, I'd rather they trash something that's already trash :D
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

I could not get the XP driver to work and when I google the problem I found forum after forum where people had the same problem that I had and every answer was that there was no XP suported driver because Aspire 5100 never was intended to be solde with XP

Whilst size does matter and I could certainly use an increase in capacity my main issue is speed, or lack thereof :(

The SSD in my Aspire One is pretty darned good... although Windows (and Linux on my machine) are set up for a standard HD, but there's a setting somewhere that optimizes it for SSD instead, so you may want to look that up.

I currently have an Acer Aspire 8920. It replaced my first gen Asus Eee 701 4G. That one only had a 4Gig SSD! I got annoyed trying to do marking on a 7" screen that could not support 800x600.

The 8920 suits me fine, even though I have to lug it around all day. No pain...no gain!  :D

I have a friend who jumped blindly into that one too... they got the first generation EEE... it's irritated me to no end that it wouldn't do a somewhat normal resolution without the "zoom" mode or whatever... useless...

our new laptop is a bit wierd as it's 15.6 inch, and does 1366x768 resolution...

Aspire 1692wlmi and a 12'' alox Powerbook G4. Kind of oldish and slackish but they get the job done. :tu: Plus, if I need speed or graphics, I can throw the task at one of the dozen or so boxes hanging around... :D
