Artifact, but is it any good?
on: July 25, 2009, 10:06:06 PM
Ok I'm thinking of getting one to use as a light pry bar, and a tyre iron for my push bikes (assuming you can) but there seems to be as many positives as negatives regarding this tool, so I'm unsure weather or not to get one

I'll be removing the blade on mine, so please don't take that into account :)

Thanks in advance peps :)

Taking the blade off means it's just a prybar with a phillips on the end (which BTW digs in your hands).  I'm sure it would work for what you want it to.

I purchased one for my father, but that's simply because I didn't feel like paying ten dollars' shipping on a five(?) dollar pry widgy from County Comm; if you want a good widgy, go for one of those; endtimesreport also has them, for international shipping.  I'd just pair a widgy bar with a nice multi for the bottle opener, flat drivers, and phillips driver; yes, it's a bit more bulk, but much better quality. :/

>.> /Or/, you could go for an Atwood. ;)

Atwoods are far out of my price bracket :-\

I just do like the overall look of the design, and can see it being useful at work too :)

For what it's worth, I like the Artifact a lot.  If you are planning to remove the blade though, I'd consider waiting for the Shard if you aren't in a hurry, since that's basically what it is.

Me...wait...?

I've already ordered it ::)

As for the blade, I'm just going to remove it, rather than the blade holder as well :)

I like my artifact; works nicely on the keychain.  The phillips head digs in a bit when you're prying with it, but its never caused me any real problems.  Anything that needs you to press that hard on the artifact really needs a bigger prybar IMO.

I use my artifact all the time to open floor plates in retail establishments. Electrical and data lines in trenches.  It's cheap so i don't mind actually using it.
I also use it to wedge shelves together in stores where the foundation has slipped a bit due to hurricanes and they don't line up on the uprights.  Take my word for it. ::)

Artifact gets an A plus in my book.

Now Shard me!

£10.95  .. I know they've got to import them and all but I thought they were only $10 other side of the water?  Or have I got that wrong?

Nope, I think you're right mate.  I'm not exactly a huge fan of the tool in the first place, but £10.95 for one is a bit steep.

That's Heinnie though isn't it.  Pretty much everything they sell they charge more than other places.  They do get it to you super-quick though, and they've got an excellent selection.

I know this is a /bit/ off topic, but it seems to me, just from various examples, that many stores copy over the amount charged in USD and change the currency symbol in front of it, or at least they're close enough comparisons, at times. :/

I keep one my EDC/Work bag, and its handy when I don't want to break out a multi just to fiddle with something.  If you want I am willing to buy you one and send it airmail to you...its not very heavy.

No I stumped up and bought it from Heinnies.

Once you factored in postage, it really wasn't much cheaper (if at all) anywhere else ::)

I've opened quite a few Corona's with mine so I like it. I taken out quite a few small nails in a bedroom I'm redooing at my place. I got mine on ebay for a decent price. Not too bad of a tool.
