Spork,

I usually ain't either, as long as it's minor. Tiny hairline gaps here or there, handling marks or small blade rub scuffs.....no biggy. But I am picky and always go through my knives when I get them with the proverbial "fine tooth comb". I get something like a RR or such I don't sweat it either way really.

But even the minor stuff on a Queen or Case gets my hackles up from time to time.

It does me too because of the prices they charge...I've had quite a few Case knives with poorly sharpened edges...that always gets me.

I hope your Ablett is a lot better than mine were! I had two and they were both sent back for the same reasons... it's shame because they look great for a decent price.

Haven't had a dull Case but I have gotten a few that had toothy edges. My biggest gripe is the occassional gap along the backspring area. In both Case and Queen built slips I get this every so often on a piece.....they are usually quite small but like you said, for the price this should not be. But it happens from time to time. Another is blade wiggle, I have gotten a couple Case pieces over the years that have had a blade, either main or secondary, with a touch of lateral play. Not sloppy but enough that I noticed it.......that gets me too.

But both are a seldom occurance, a "Friday" knife that gets through, but once I get past that $50.00 mark in price I expect better.

But considering how many knives I own from these companies and how few I have with even the slightest F&F issue I guess I shouldn't complain.  :-\

I'm afraid my Ablett was poor as well.  I'll not list the faults but enough to say the first thing that happened when I got it out of the box was a nasty big brass splinter  >:(

The Ablett I'm getting is a contract piece for Bexfield's...I wonder if it is an older piece.

It will certainly be interesting to know how you find it.

Poor condition to say the least but they'll make interesting projects one day.  I've got a couple of their keyring knives as well... somewhere  ::)

Oh, I wouldn't send them in under warranty, I've never even sent a SAK back.  Broken tools are just opportunities for experimentation :D
