[Magic Bus]

Anyone else here, apart from Roadie have a Fallkie F1? What do you think of it and what have you used it for? I've got one with the satin finished blade (didn't care for the black) and like it a lot although I've only used it so far for chopping down telegraph poles

I'm on my 3rd one now (had to sell the first 2 ) and it's definetly one of my all time favourites

So far I've used it to baton wood, feather sticks, whittle, and a dozen other bushie tasks

I don't have one, but I have used one and I prefered the slightly longer, flat ground Cold Steel Master Hunter to it personally.  Just felt a tad too small.

Lovely lovely knife though which certainly has a following.

I love the F1, great handling knife that even a numpty like me can use and sharpen. Tough cookie too, never been worried about damaging it. Not the biggest blade around but that's a good thing at times

I luv my F1

I feel it's one of the best EDC blades out there.
we've used it for many things, great balance, steel
and treat, design and the micarta ones
(which I don't have)

Ah! Fällkniven, a great company, on of the best there are! Love my Fällknivens, have a U2, P1 and a WM1. The PXL are very appealing, I´ll see how long I can resist.

The F1 is a great outdoor knife and EDCable. Love it, but do not have one by now (borrowed one some times) for one simple reason: I want a Micarta one that is too expensive right now or I will just get the blade and will have a custom handle and sheath. For I´m really poor when it comes to knifemaking I will ask a knifemaker to do it - and it will be not less expensive than the Micarta one I guess...

I like the Kraton version for outdoor duty, but for an EDC I want it niver

Fallkniven knives are great and their build quality is superb.  They do offer a very disappointing warranty though.

True , but your highly unlikely to break one though, and there quality control is superb, so your not likely to have any problems

So then why not offer a better warranty?  It wouldn't stop me getting one because of it, but if I was stuck choosing between a Fallkniven knife and another brand with a decent warranty I may stray away from them.

I think it maybe a carry over from when they very nearly went bankrupt

I don't know all the details, but I know the owner of Fallkniven was very ill, and consequently they wasn't producing enough knives to cover there overheads, and I'd imagine a limited warranty rules out further expenditure.

Just out of interest, how do you guys sharpen yours? Mousemat and wet n dry or another method?

belt sander for me, with the platen/belt support removed
you get the play in the belt to convex pretty easy.

but I should learn the mouse-pad

Usually on a mousemat/belt, but if I've put a bur in it, then I use my DC4

I prefer a backing with less give...a sheet of rubber gasket material or leather. If you press down too hard on a mousepad it can wrap around and dull your edge.

Old thread I know, but I want to know some stuff about the F1. I have been thinking about it for going out in the bush for some time.

Been wondering how the grip holds up in wet conditions?
How the steel sharpens and retains?
Can you get at kydex sheath for it?
Does it baton wood well?

holds wonderful while wet. I've got the "Thermorun" handle one, not the Micarta, but it's tough and grippy.

sharpens as good/easy as any convex blade and holds it's edge good and long.

mine came with their "Zytel Sheath" it's okay, durable, holds the blade in good, it's like kydex.

it batons fine (for a small blade) and has a good sharp back for fire-steeling (if you don't mind marking it up!)

I think there was a moment when a certain lady friend of mine had you worried, but it stood up to that test too. That means it would be a safe blade for me to own
