I'm looking forward to seeing it, there was a feature about some of the director's other works in shorts/commercials on wired.com

http://www.wired.com/entertainment/hollywood/magazine/17-08/pl_screen

I strongly suggest checking out some of his stuff online

I liked the movie but thought the preview was cheating. What it showed (and got me interested) has nothing to do with majority of film, only the last couple of minutes.

Just don't ask any why questions, or it's full of holes.

Yep, lots of holes in the plot if you analyze it too much.

During the ride home my wife was asking some of those "why" questions....if the "why" questions were answered, they would have closed the door on the sequel.

There are those, but also "why the heck did he do that". Highlight to read spoilers: Like if you can snag an RPG round out of mid air, why do you not throw it away, but to hold onto it till it blow your arm away. Or when the alien tell you there are machines on their ship can heal you, but he'll have to go home first and come back for you in three years. Why can't he heal you while on the way home?

I saw District 9 last weekend, it was a good movie.  I think instead of attempting to answer all those "why" questions, they dove right into the story at hand as if the audience has known about the aliens for the past 28 years since they arrived.

Some very uncomfortable scenes that reminded me of the 1986 (I think) remake of The Fly.

Great movie, loved it.
And apart from that, let me just say, that the last 20 minutes or so were too good.

Spoiler :

The Mech scenes were some of the most intense and breathtakingly action cool super duper scenes I have seen.

The last 40 minutes or so were just non stop.  There were about three times where you say to yourself "whew, he made it!"...then something goes wrong!

I thought it was stunning! :tu: Great special effects, refreshingly different story line, never a dull moment. :)

The wife and daughters hated it though. :( Bah, what do they know about quality films anyhow? ::)

It is a great movie. Up until I saw Avatar it was a strong contestant in my mind for Sci Fi movie of the year. I mean I loved Star Trek too, but District 9 did something really new and revolutionary in my mind. It's definitely a great movie, really intelligently done which was nice to see. A breath of fresh air in an other wise stagnant industry. Seems to me that this year Sci-Fi is back on top as far as movie quality goes with District 9 and Avatar.

I watched District 9 on DVD last week, having had it recommended to me by a work colleague.

The political sub-text and the comparisons with apartheid were very well done, without making the film too "preachy". It wasn't particularly subtle at times, but definitely delivered it's message! The scenes with the APCs moving in convoy into the townships could easily have been newsreel footage from the 1980s.

My guess would be that there will be no sequel, as the point has been made, but I suppose if the box-office takings were high enough, you never know!

I'm glad I watched it - good film :)
I used to come here a lot.
