Should I join the secret club?!
I edc the Core and I LOVE IT.  Browsing some comparisons between the Core and ST300 I found people saying that the the ST is a big step up.  Since I already love the Core....is it possible to love something toooooo much??
Anywho, I was thinking of doing a mod that had nothing to do with either tool but I have another idea for a ST300 mod that might beat out my other idea for the time being.

Question is- PT-540 mod or ST300 mod?

(wow, this isn't a biased thread to ask that question :D)

Just joined the club! Probably won't edc it, but I will keep it in the work vehicle. That phillips has reach the Charge's doesn't!

The pliers are hardcore too. It will get used for sure.

After about 9 months of waiting, I finally get to join this club!  I got my (secondhand, but beautiful) ST300 in the mail today from David Bowen, and I must say, I love it!  I thought the pliers were ugly in photos but they really appeal to me in person.  I love the overall solid feel to this tool, and the tools lock in place very firmly.  I am really looking forward to the extra reach with the drivers, because that is one thing about my Blast that drives me nuts, the phillips doesn't reach all.  Can't wait to put this baby to the test!

It hasn't had many detractors yet the ST300.  I can't say I'm surprised about that as it is one of the most well thought through tools I've come across.
I used to come here a lot.

Just putting this out there, I really hope LM does something with the blast like they did with the core.  As in retire it and put the tool loadout on a better tool.  I love my blast, but it just feels cheap sometimes, and they need to get rid of that darn little bit driver and stick an awl in there.  That and some pliers like the ST300 has and you have a near perfect tool, just a tad lighter than the ST300.

Don't get me wrong, with my new ST300, I am good for a looooong while, because nothing I have owned yet has been this cool.

(kinda) off topic, I got to handle an ST200 today for the first time, and I was impressed with it as well.  I see where the improvements came from, and the locks are the shining star of those.  I don't think I would be able to get past those rocker locks digging into my hand when I grip the ST200 while using any tool.

I am very tempted at this time to join the club, but how does the ST 300 do against the Surge?

I do recall that TNP over on YT stressed the lack of scissors on the 300 which could be a deal breaker for some, and the lack on oho could be another as well..

If you had to hump into the field lets say for a 4,5,8 hour hike, which one would you feel more at ease either having in your pack or on your hip?

Cheers,
Serge

On a 5 hour hike, the extra 3 oz on the SURGE would be a deal breaker for me.  Since I always carry a OHO folder in the woods, I don't need my MT to OHO.  An as far as the scissors go, unless you are fishing, it wouldn't be a terrible loss IMO.  I have had 2 Surges and I am currently EDCing a ST300.  It is quite a bit easier to stomach on the belt, I must say!  The drivers are better, your Saw and File are always on it, and the pliers are a home run.  Way to go LM.

I've had both and did not care for the Surge at all. The ST300 is the superior tool by far  :tu:

Ok guys you've made a pretty good case to check it out, so I'm gonna give it a whirl and I just found one on Ebay for about $50.00 with shipping so I'll let you know what I think once it arrives and I hump through the woods with it a while groovy?

Serge

Mine dont rattle.

Mine neither! But I don't EDC mine, I just use it around the house, so who knows what will happen with time :)

I tend to tighten all my tools quite a bit anyway as rattles drive me mad  :ahhh

I EDC mine and it doesn't rattle either  It does fit tight in the sheath though and that may be why it doesn't :tu: Been EDCing the 300 since mid October and don't think it is gonna be knocked from my belt anytime soon either :D

Amici,
Well my ST 300 arrived today and with mixed results.. Although it is brand new and the stainlees steel construction seems to be flawless, the blades are a little tight understandibly so due to it's newness. But my issue seems to be that the plier head is covered with wht seems like rust or some other like material in spots all over..

I thought maybe some Flitz or possibly Brasso that may be able to clean this up, but thought I would post to the forum to get any suggestions or commments..

Cheers,
Serge

Here are two more... This is the forst time I've ever purchased a LM with something funky going on with it.. Thanksfully it doesn't seem like to be one of those flaws that would deem the tool a stinker..

Cheers,
Serge
