Heaviest folder for pocket EDC

Poll

The heaviest folder for my EDC, clipped into my pocket:

Ultralight EDC knives for me, so 1 oz or less.
My EDC knives should be light, so 3 oz is my upper limit.
Medium weight for me, so anything up to 5 oz is fine.
I EDC only heavy duty knives, so anything up to 8 oz is fine.
Weight limits are for wimps, I carry only the heaviest folders.

Some MTO members don't EDC a knife clipped in the pocket - if you fall into that category, then this poll isn't for you.

When wearing heavier trousers made of denim or canvas, I can carry up to about a 7 oz knife clipped into the pocket without it bugging me.  Often carry a Byrd Cara Cara G10 at 5.5 oz with no problem.  When working in the yard I always carry an even heavier Buck XTract.  But, those don't count as EDC for me.

Wearing thinner dress or casual trousers, which is what I wear most days, I've discoverd that 3 oz is about the maximum comfortable knife weight for me.  And, I'm beginning to prefer carrying even lighter knives, ideally not much over 2 oz.

Boker Trance at 3.2 oz is fairly comfortable because of its thin, flat shape but it's just on the edge of being too heavy.  I often notice the Trance pulling on my pocket, but it doesn't really bug me.

Kabar Dozier 3" Folder at just over 2 oz is only slightly thicker, but is lighter and more comfortable for me to carry than the Trance.  I barely even notice the Dozier 3" Folder until I need it.

Lately I've tried carrying a Kabar Dozier 2.25" Folder which weighs only 0.8 oz and is even thinner.  Can be comfortably carried clipped into a shirt pocket or even clipped to the neck of a T-shirt.  So far the shorter blade has been able to handle all of my urban EDC needs.

How about you?  What is the heaviest folder that you regularly EDC clipped into a pocket?

Interesting topic.

I find when I'm wearing jeans it's not so much the weight but the shape and how
it sits clipped in my pocket.  If the knife is relatively thin, and narrow I can
handle over 5 oz.   If it sports a thick handle, and is wide say like Cold Steel's AK-47 that's
what tends to bother me more than it's weight.

Good thread I will look forward to hearing others preferences.  :)

cheers,
Sean

I really don't care! :D

As long as the profile is good and it doesn't stab my gut, I'm fine with it. :tu:

Mostly on the lighter side for me - UKPK doesn't seem to go noticed when I'm carrying it :)

5 oz is my upper limit. Have carried heavier ones but would rather not.

For me it would depend on the size of the knife.  If its a 4" blade then anything up to 5oz. is fine for me but if its a shorter blade like less than 3-1/2" I generally don't edc it if its more than 4oz.  The Benchmade Vex is a good example,  shorter blade but heavy at 4.7oz.  its a decent knife but just feels too heavy to edc in the pocket.

I have carried several different clipped knives from a Cold Steel Pocket Bushman, Spyderco Endura 4, Emerson Mach 1, Gerber Ez Out.

All different shapes and sizes and weights,  I never had a problem with the weight but I have had a problem with getting stuff out of
that pocket with them in there sometimes.

Pocket clips and belt sheaths are asking for attention so I steer away from both of these carry methods. This leaves either pocket organizers or loose pocket carry as options. Given my body structure and depth/width of pockets on most of my pants, I have to either go with 5oz or lighter, or have a little something bouncing on every step I make... ::) :D
