New style for me
on: October 31, 2009, 08:09:50 PM
These "should" come in handy as I have a hard time with small nicks and cuts sometimes as often as
"week to week" from sloppy & hurried operating.   Quite a number of those small cuts are caused
from sharp tips.  Nicely balanced and with "shallow serrations" it was what I had in mind as I went
looking at Rescue Knives.

Is the smaller one a Meadowlark?

I have the PE version of that blade if it is, and it's a great little knife.
I used to come here a lot.

Thanks Mike.  I am taking the smaller one to work for the next few shifts.
I use my knives a lot and find I nick myself quite frequently.  Quite looking
forward to seeing how I get on with them.

Happy Halloween,
Sean

Dave,
Yes it is the Meadowlark.  You like your plain edge eh?

Yes - it's OK - especially as I got it for nothing!

I ordered a SS handled, part serrated Meadowlark (with the more pointed blade) from ebay, and got sent the PE version like yours in error.

When I contacted the seller, he told me to keep it, and sent me the correct one too! I can't grumble about that, especially as they are both perfectly good knives.

I've some pics somewhere......

I used to come here a lot.

That or else proper safety gloves.  :)

I am always cutting down boxes and opening up new one's in the kitchen.
When I say I use my blades what I mean is I "have" to use them.  Box cutters work great but unfortunately with
over 25 staff working the common cutters goes AWOL often.

Dave,
Nice pic's of your Byrd's.  Can't argue about free stuff thats for sure. ;)  I quite like the Byrd's for the price.
Easy to resharpen and the Chinese steel holds a pretty good edge as well.  About the only complaint I had
was the clip steel really bends out of shape if you give it a good knock on a counter edge.

Those both look very nice.  Especially, that bigger Cara Cara fully serrated sheepsfoot appeals to me.

Byrds make great working knives.  Same great ergonomics as a Spyderco, but not so expensive that you hesitate to actually use them for hard work.

And Byrd steel is good enough for practical purposes.  My Cara Cara gets used for some tough cutting while doing yardwork, and it stays sharp enough to suit me for months before it needs to be touched up.

They are really good value tools - I have a meadowlark FRN which is my carpentry knife of choice :)

Good to hear other users are happy with their Byrd's.   One thing I did notice on quite a number
of Rescue blades is the difference in serrations.  Some have some pretty pronounced
points and a common complaint is that sometimes they can get hung up on some types of rope etc.
There have been some fellas that have ground down the points so as to make for better slicing.  This
is one thing that you won't have to do on this particular model.
Below is a review from a member of the Spyderco forum on his thoughts on the knife.  It's quite well
done.
