Suspension setups.. let’s see them
on: November 11, 2009, 06:48:25 PM
I remember reading about suspending your MT from a piece of cord (wrapped around your belt) and then dropping it in your pocket. After much searching I can’t find pictures of this kind of setup. I was interested in seeing the different ways of doing this.

So, if you don’t mind, let’s see your suspension setups

You mean something like this?

with option to be used as a wrist lanyard.

TBH this was just something that I was playing around with, I still prefer a belt pouch for larger tools/SAKs.
Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.

Used to have Ohlins on the BMW.  Switched to Showas when I went to a Ducati.  More travel on the front end, but the rear shock is adjustable and is very comfortable.  If the forks need a rebuild, I may look at Ohlins and Wilbers before just plumping for replacement parts.

Not that kind of suspension?  ???

Well, I'm not really a Gerber fan, so I biased. However, I agree wholeheartedly  :D

Blimey - he's bigger than Ben's Sue  :P

This seems a good time to show off the Kydex sheaths I got from Def via edcsource.com.

The Micra will be attached to my rucksack for hiking / walking, the Soldier sheath will get tried out fairly soon.

I'm not too keen on the chain used on the Soldier sheath, so I'll likely mod it a bit in the near future:

I used to come here a lot.

Those look familiar Dave!  :D

I wasn't too keen on the sheath either, but some other folks really seem to love them.  Glad to hear someone agrees with me!  :D

I think the Soldier sheath is going to fly - and a smaller linked chain would improve it greatly - one way to find out!

The Micra sheath is a work of genius and is perfect for clipping to a back-pack, couldn't really be more ideal.

These are the first Kydex sheaths I've even seen in the flesh, I doubt they'll be the last.

The Micra sheath is from On/Scene Tactical and is indeed a work of genius.  I have a few other of Eric's sheaths and I doubt they will be the last too!  In fact, many knives and tools I get these days set me to wondering how Eric would tackle them!  He's done a great job with some oddities like the Crunch, and I just shipped an OHT sheath out a few days ago from a sale on EDCSource- was surprised you didn't get involved in that one!  :D

At any rate, what you have is examples from two very different kydex workers.  As you can see, Eric is a master, and Reid, well he's Reid..... :D  Believe it or not though, I have some kydex examples from someone else I won't name here that prove that while kydex seems like a simple medium, it's very easy to go very wrong....

Haha - I won't press you (not publicly anyway) about the disaster. :D

The reason I didn't go for the OHT sheath was mostly 'cos I didn't see  it, but in fact I'm not a great fan of the OHT. I have the new soldier (very recent acquisition) and it's not entirely practical for me. If I'm going to risk carrying a locking blade over here - I may as well take the Charge, but also, I can't get on with the liner locks.

Dave I would be worried the Micra might fall out of that sheath   , any chance of that happening or if the Micra got snagged on a branch or something & get pulled out of the sheath

The Micra locks into that sheath quite well.  It's hard to get out unless you know the secret of how to get it out.  I would imagine that you could put some fair pressure on it if you tried pulling it straight out and still fail!

The only way to get it out of the sheath it to grab the sheath in one hand and the Micra in the other, brace your thumbs in the middle and "snap" it out as if you were breaking a twig.  Doing that makes it come out quite easily, but it also shows how there's no way the Micra will come out of the sheath accidentally.  You really have to experience it first hand to appreciate it.

Yup. Even if it did snag on a branch or something, the force needed to remove it would ensure that I noticed.

It's very solid.
