Hello from Indiana USA
on: November 22, 2009, 04:57:05 AM
Hello all I am an Engineer, shade tree machanic and Pastor from Indiana.

I owned a Gerber for years, a couple of decades I guess, last time I checked it looks like they don't offer it any longer.  Last year it came up missing!
I am hoping it will surface again, I kept it on my motorcycle for the last few years.

I have been toting a couple of VERY cheaply made tools of late.

Last night my wife picked my up a 12 in 1 Stanley that I really like, everything operates very smoothly an is lighter than the junk I have had.  I think the junk is going in the tackle box and the Stanely is going on my work belt.

Still hoping for another Gerber for Christmas...

Welcome to the forum!

I had a little laugh at your phrasing "Last year it came up missing!" not because of any disrespect towards you, but because it reminded me of the typical French Canadian way of speaking that I have spent my whole life laughing at.  In your situation, from a Francophone, the phrase would be "And when I come back, dere it was- GONE!"

There are a lot of good, inexpensive tools on the market nowadays that might better serve you than the cheap ones.  I would suggest you look into the Leatherman Skeletool or Kick, or the Guppie or Zilla from Columbia River Knife and Tool, or even the X-Tract from Buck.  All of these can be found in the $30-40 range, and some even less than that!
