Assisted Opening Blades

Poll

AO blades are:

Great! Never without one in my pocket.
Interesting, carry one occasionally.
Fun to play with, but don't carry one.
Silly, a solution is search of a problem.
Horrible, I have enough to worry about without adding  accidental discharge of a knife in my pocket.

I'm looking at how trident works, when in closed position the lock bar is far back enough that the release lever just flops around without touching it. I haven't got mine yet so this is all from looking at the pics/videos.

Not sure how it applies in case of lock backs like twitch thou.

I can release my Twitch by pressing the lock bar. So yes, it is pretty much like an auto.

I've pondered this before :)
I used to come here a lot.

It surprises me how that minor element has been missed.

CRKT outburst.

I have the CRKT Folding Hissatsu with Outburst and man does it open with authority! The torsion bar is strong on this baby!

Love the look of that Hissatsu.   Any pic's possible?

Ask and ye shall receive.  :D

I really really really want the Hissatsu fixed and folder, and the Hisshou. Really really.

I just can't justify it... ever... as I don't fight too many ninjas.

Just the one. :D
Got those frog legs.

Just realised, it's a "Twitch II" I've got - no idea if that's significant!

It really does!  It's on my list, but out of stock currently.  I think I will go with the manual opener though.

Interesting company that CRKT.  A lot of guys on blade forums and such do not give the company much
credit and will put them down, perhaps not as junk but close to it.  When I look through their catalogue
I certainly see variety and some pretty reputable people, and custom knife makers designing and helping
promote the line.
I quite like the Hissatsu folder,  I will be awaiting more shipments to arrive then pick one up.  Thanks for
posting the pic's Tango, it looks great!

YW!

I am on BF too but I am not as much of a brand snob as some. I will judge the knife on its own merits and not the brand. That said, I find that CRKT as come really innovative designs. It is just sometimes the execution falls short  and they are really reamed for it. They do have some "cheapish" models but the also have some really nice quality stuff. I guess like any knife maker. And now that Ken Onion has joined CRKT, they should be coming out with some fantastic designs. I just hope they use at least decent steels on them. Kershaw was my favorite maker when he was with them. Now they are really concentrating on RJ Martin's designs whose designs I also like.

BF also puts down Gerber knives but I think that has more foundation. :pok:  Since they were bought up by Fiskars, their quality really suffered while maintaining or increasing their prices. Gerber has the fewest models that I find attractive due to their vague use of "surgical stainless steel". Tell us what it is dammit!

Brand snobbery is common on almost all of the enthusiast forums, whether the forum involves knives, flashlights, guns, cars, you name it.

The prevailing attitude of posters follows this line:  makers A, B, and C are superior and can do no wrong, while makers X, Y, and Z are utter crap and nothing they produce is even worthy of consideration.

I've become so fed up with snobs that I no longer participate in several forums.  I'll still read those forums, but can't be bothered to post in them.  Anyone posting anything challenging the conventional wisdom of the snobs is quickly set upon by the majority and labeled a troll.
