Pretty much what the titlte says, a  friend an eye where talking about knives and i told him about my ASEK and showed him the gerber destruction vid on youtube... next day he asked me to bring my knife round and he had checked pricing.. he like sthe knife but wanted something not quite as heavy or maybe a thinner blade.

I suggested the SOG Seal pup.. never actually seen one but he kind of made a big deal about about serration which ruled out the kizlyar knives. Its been less than 48hrs since our 1st chat and he is teling me he is close to buying one online... then i remembered the Prodigy, came out after i got mine but definately the inexpensive choice (glass breaker and 3 spear holes are cool but how often will a civilian like me use 'em?)

So if anyone has any ideas and feedback on a similar sized knife share it please

Also it looks like my black asek is discontinued, tan and green being the colours online (when weill they do rescue orange!)

Good suggestions Mike :tu: you know I luv the Fallkniven F1!

one brand many really like for toughness, price and an unconditional warranty (no questions asked)
is RAT-cutlery knives, like the RC-5 (and many more); http://www.ratcutlery.com/

when I first got into blades I thought about a Gerber LMF, but did some homework and found other good
companies, without serrations! lol easy to maintain and great warranties  ;)

wait.. no.. no.. no...

He WANTS serrations.  I assumed people had seen most of the kizlyar range and knew them as almost exclusively plain edge.

The cut when blunt option of a combo edge is what he wants... other wise i would be saying RAT or Kizlyar :D

I'm pretty sure Ontario have part serrated version of fixed blades.

it is a very scandinavian shape... like my Kizlyar Stehk-1

ahh but what a kitchen knife, balance, clean lines, good feel in your hand, good edge (convex), good
corrosion resistance. If my kitchen knives were as strong and good, I'd never buy any other! :P

not enough ninja waste for some! :pok:

Well I can't point you in the direction of decent serrated blades I'm afraid mate, as I can't stand serrations :-\
Give in, buy several Farmer's!!!!!!

All the RAT models have serrated versions...something like the RC4 you can get for about $100 and it comes with a awesome kydex sheath.  The RAT serrations are supposedly some of the best in use and easily sharpened.

www.knivesshipfree.com

and

www.the-knife-connection.com

are where I've gotten most of my RATs.  The RAT website is also packed with photos and info www.ratcutlery.com

Another good line is the Ontario Spec-Plus knives.  They are less money, but the one I have is solid and the sheath isn't that bad, although it basically limits you to just belt carry.  RAT sheaths can be easily fastened to a pack.  I'm not sure which models have serrations, but I do remember seeing a few with that option.

Well he got the prodigy.
He actually found this review here
Comparison of ASEK & Prodigy

I love my ASEK and its definately my 'if i have one knife'
but after seeing the leaner prodigy i am going to get one (or three)
