Spyderco Slipjoint Rescue ?
on: January 18, 2010, 03:34:36 PM
I've borrowed this pic and I really want to know about the middle knife . Is this a custom or do Spyderco really make a non locking rescue type knife ?

OMG  :o     :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh

This is the answer to about 99% of my knife carry problems . It means I can carry day to day but still have a decent rescue blade when I have to respond to a call .
When my pager goes off I have to drop everything and respond ASAP , I've even been known to run  This is perfect for me as I would already have the knife on me  :D

Just one thing though   How the f*ck am I going to aford one  Nearly every tool and knife I have left has sentimental value so I can't raise funds that way plus I'm not working full time till March .

Anyone want to buy a jar of real English beach sand for say $149

I just noticed that the grinds are different to the one in your link and the one in Duncs picture.

Why so expensive again ::)

I really wonder if Sal at Spyderco has understood just how small the UK market for premium knives is.  I certainly appreciate the amount of effort he's put into the Slippits, and I realise they sell in other countries but it must be barely making him any money.
I've said before that a budget, non-locking rescue knife, aimed at the climbing/sailing market is about the only way Spyderco is ever going to commonly make it on to shop shelves in the UK (IMO anyway).

Surely , you being a Coastguard officer an all, and being on call, would constitute a "good reason "under S139 .I have a tuff time believing you would be committed to the local bridewell for having a commitment to saving distressed mariners . Has the CPS truly gone Nucking Futts ?

The grinds are different as the one on that site is labelled a prototype.

I'd agree with this TBH Dunc, I think you have a reasonable excuse to carry what is a very workmanlike knife.  If you were carrying a Rambo special "'cos of work" you might not get away with it, but surely a OH rescue knife wouldn't raise an eyebrow?  All my own opinion of course.

The grinds are different as the one on that site is labelled a prototype.

Ah, that explains it. :tu:

Well said :)

What need's to made is a cheaper line of slip joint's to get folks through the door, who may then go on to the more exotic knives :)

Maybe Dunc, but you've got to do what makes you feel comfortable mate. If you go and seek a ruling from somewhere - the rules are quite clear, but if anyone has legitimate reason to carry a rescue blade you would surely?

Otherwise they may as well ban them outright.

I think your good reason is about as solid as it gets . You would have to find a Bobby daft enuff to nick you , a custody suite sergeant who was totally retarded , an equally daft member of the CPS team , and a brain dead judge . And all the above would have to come together in the same case .
