I got a ToolClip !!!!
on: February 16, 2010, 05:18:37 PM
So there I was shopping in the City today with my wife and two girls when I went into a little army and Navy surplus store . He had a few multitools for sale and I noticed he had a couple of 2nd hand tools , two gerbers and a supertool . He wanted £35 and £44 for the Gerbers and that didn't really interest me  :( I was just about to leave and I asked him if he had anymore 2nd hand multis . He asked me if I was looking or anything in particular and I said "anything by Leatherman or Sog "  He rumaged in a drawer and brought out a beat up LM Supertool and a SOG Toolclip  :D I asked the price of the toolclip and he said it was quite old and probably only of interest to a collector  :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh   When he told me how much I couldn't get the money out quick enough  :o

So here it is .........

I'm off to clean it up , oil and sharpen it  :D  More pics to follow .

In the mean time could someone please tell me a little about these and the model I got ?

Cheers

Dunc

Well I payed £20 for it , which I think is pretty good . The chances of finding a SOG in a shop in this country is pretty slim and then to find one I can afford is unheard of until today  :D

So you all ready for the pics  :D

Theres no signs of use on the pliers  :D

Can you use this as a mini pry bar ?

There are quite a few light scratches on this side

Comparrison shots with a Swisstool

The blade although blunt with a little rolling of the edge in places still had its original factory edge and hadn't been sharpened . It has now  >:D

The serrated blade looks unused apart from very slight damage to the first scollap. I take it that is a flat blade screwdriver on the end ?

File is very good with no signs of use and only a couple of rust spots which I'm working on .

The can opener edge showed some signs of use but was in good condition . Has any one tested these on bottles and cans ?

The little flat driver showed a tiny bit of a twist but its hardly noticable and it may even just be me  ::) One thing I notice was this driver wasn't under spring tension like the other tools , is this normal ?

I am so pleased with this  :D

All in all this is a great tool and in very good condition . It was a little gunked up but this gave me an enjoyable afternoon cleaning oiling and sharpening .  The only tools that show any real use is the knife blade ( very slight edge damage , now sorted ) and the tin opener . Judging but the light scratches I would say this was much carried and little used and probably much loved .

And UK legal EDC as a bonus Dunc!

Your question about the small driver - yes, that's normal!

I guess there was more then one version of the Toolclip  (which I didn't know).

In Def's article his shows a cap lifter/screwdriver with a rounded nose on the serrated blade.

Congrats!  It's a heckuva tool.  Just mind the blade, the thing is deceptively sharp.

What a steal Dunc! :o  While one of my Army/Navy stores does stock MT's (the only place I know of that has a Spirit) they don't stock anything second hand and certainly not anything rare or collectable.  Lucky guy mate. :tu:

Nice find! I'm really think to get one of those new minis. When again are they expected to be on the market?

BTW, do you have a Sunseeker? I've sold some of those, very nice boats  :tu:

I could never afford a Sunseeker lol  I just got the bag from the boat show  :D  A mate of mine has one and its very nice  :)

With regards to the small blade I can deffinetly say its not a can opener as I just tried to use it .

I was just going to say Dunc that aint no can opener mate  :ahhh :D.
The plier handle is indeed a pry bar(light duty) , I will see if I can find my copy of the SOG literature that came with my NIB one. I really like the look of the early ones small secondary blade/can opener  :pok: :P :D :D. My ToolClip is a latter model, I do have a knock off that is a almost identical version of the first addition & I do like that little blade  8) 8) 8).

Great pick up Dunc , & no import duties fees  :D :D :D :D :D.

Late model on top, direct first model copy on the bottom.

I would be interested to hear what you think of the file Dunc , not sure if having a very sharp serrated knife edge on a file is such a great idea   :D :D
