That was my first ever fixed blade :)

A bit rough and ready, and will need a bit of work to make it comfy (ie not a hand shredder as it as stock ::)) But once it's done it'll be a good, brutally tough knife :)

Cool, what was the steel like?  Did it roll/chip easily?

I've been watching a bunch of Ray Mears shows on youtube the past few days and he's got a traditional looking parang/golok he uses in almost every episode.  The closest thing I could find onle that was a produciton machete was this Golok.  The one Ray uses I'm estimating the same dimensions as this..

Oh it definetly rolled :D

At a guess I'd say the rockwell was only about 54-55 so the edge will need a fair bit of maintenance :)

Isn't that Golok nicknamed the "Tree-Beater" for it's poor performance?

Could be

I do remember (going back nearly 20 years now) it needing the bevel's being steepened, and it never really held it's edge terribly well :-\

But I was very fond of it :)

I've been wanting one of those too. I believe they had a Parang prototype at SHOT.

Yup, it's on www.condortk.com...I don't like the thin width it has near the handle though.
