My first tool failure.
on: July 17, 2007, 01:58:32 AM
Ok having a dozen tools I took the leap 3 weeks ago and bought my first SOG. I bought the power lock and absolutely love the thing. Only one problem It failed me over the weekend. While in Maine this weekend I used it to tighten up a 1/2  inch lag screw and heard a pop. The tool looked ok but when I opened it the next day I was holding half of the mounting bolt and head of it. It sheared the piece right off. Luckely The Lowes down the street had one in stock, and was able to trade it out.

I was just woundering, Has anyone else had this as an issue? I did save the broken half. If I think of it I will post a pick of it tommorrow.

By the way the compound leverage does work!!

I'd like to see a pic of what broke if you get a chance...I've never heard of a SOG multi failing :-X

Anything is possible though, it happens to all manufacturers.

I agree- defects can happen, which is why quality manufacturers stand behind their products.

Here it is.

By the way I had a second failure. The Phillips head sheared off while unscrewing a crate at work. It cost me a good deal of pain. I called Sog and Christine(she needs a raise, and was very cool) is sending another bit out, but I dont think I will get my son the Killowatt as a gift when He gets his tax ID for his new Electrical buissness.

Definitely defective, and this is the only time I've heard of something like that happening with a SOG.  You must have got the 1 millionth one off the line that was started on Friday afternoon and finished Monday morning!
