Like Ryan says!

CD is a bit more reliable than flash, but it's more secure than no backup!

I use one of these internet things now, so there's a copy of mine on the internet if my PC ever dies. It took ages to do the first backup (liek 24 hours), but now it just does incremental changes (i.e. only stuff that's changed in the last hour), and I barely notice it happening. :)

I've got about 16GB that I think I need backed up - I can get everything else form somewhere if the worst happens, so music, pictures and My Documents!

I used to come here a lot.

To go off track a little.. maybe a program like Acronis True Image is useful if you are looking to backup your system Dave, coupled with a portable hard drive. :D

Tbh, I'm quite happy with the setup I've got now.

The problem with portable hard drives is that if I lose my PC in a fire or something, the hard drive will probably burn with it. At least with this online backup system, I know it's safe. It's a British Telecom service, so I'm as sure as you can be that it's secure :)

it's getting to be that there's a lot of good online backup solutions these days... yet people still don't backup... local backups are a step in the right direction, but as Davek pointed out, it's kinda pointless in a disaster situation...

there's even things like dropbox, which will sync folders between PCs, or you can even share folders with other friends and family (Grant and I have one for sharing site related stuff)

If you're thinking of signing up for the free 2Gb part please use my link: https://www.getdropbox.com/referrals/NTE0MTgxMzQ5 so I can get an extra 250Mb (I think you do as well!) or maybe Grant has his referral link handy too...  for each referral you can get an extra 250Mb up to a total of 8Gb on the free account... and you can have public and non public folders.
The difficult we do immediately, the impossible takes a little longer.

Here's my link since Whoey mentioned it:

https://www.dropbox.com/referrals/NTc2MjI4Mzk

But by all means, use Whoey's since he brought it up!  DropBox is a great service and I have used it for a lot more than just site related stuff, but then I have a desktop, laptop and netbook, and the things I want to work with are always on one of my other computers!

Since I take a buttload of pics for work, it's usually too many to email on to my boss, and so I appreciate Dropbox as I get to send my boss a link and he can get the pics whenever he has a moment, rather than gumming up his inbox with 3 dozen full size pics!
