BUMPO!

I was looking to a much less invasive Juice mod (just making new stainless or g10 scales with pocket clip) and i was wondering how the brass pivots are working out.

I was also researching the thread size...4-40????

Got the brass pivots made a couple weeks ago (finally!) and did a test assembly. Everything works well, but I need to do a little polishing on some of the components before doing a 'final' assembly. (the donor tool was a used Xe6) Hopefully we got light at the end of this tunnel. :)

*screw size is 3-48

You can't just show the start of an awesome titanium mod here and not finish it. Trust me, I know. I admitted I needed help with my having of a life interfering with my titanium tinkering and MTO was here for me to push me through to the end.

We're here to help you Bob, with the pokey stick of encouragement but first you have to admit you need help.

I can't wait to see the finished product, with the custom titanium scales and OHO blade. But personally, I just hope he figured out the pivot pin thang, I've got a Juice Pro that really REALLY wants to shed a layer, and those aluminum scales. :D

Made some definite progress today, but in the end it fell just short of the goal. :-\ And for such a silly reason too..... :P

The whole story:
I finished machining the backsides of the scales this morning, which went much easier than anticipated. :) Then came assembly time! Yay, this ought to be fun, right? WRONG! :P After spending over an hour fighting The Battle Of The Backsprings, it was back to the shop to make a little assembly jig. Then things were proceeding nicely again, until it became apparent that my pivot screws are too short. The ones I bought from www.knifekits.com are one half inch long:

(Image removed from quote.)

Unfortunately, it appears they need to be just a little bit longer. :( These are already the longest ones knifekits sells, so I'll have to make my own. :(

In the mean time though, I was able to assemble up the first layer and the pliers layer, just to get a feel for it. Here's a few pics. (keep in mind there are no back scales in place yet)

Are those the 1/8" diameter pins? How long do you need them to be? I splice then together regularly for the thicker SAKs with either a 1/2" screw through the short one and halfway into the long one or a tiny stud right in the middle and plenty of loctite. Might save you having to make brass ones.

IIRC he said they were 5/32" or 0.156".

Your idea sounds interesting; one complication is the way the Juice uses multiple thin backsprings, pretty much guaranteeing that at least one will be right on the joint in the middle of the pin!

Juice uses 1/8 pins.  The splice should work depending on how much more than 0.5 inch you need.
