Greetings all. Graham in Courtenay, BC.
My business is portable power systems for expeditions. Helping keep all personal electronics & research equipment running in remote locations.
I have a background in physics, and am always interested in new & innovative ways to do more with less.
Looking forward to great discussions.

Welcome Graham.  Sounds like an interesting job you have there.  So what to you use in the way
of compact tools and or knives?  :)

Yeah, it's not a bad job. It's like Christmas every spring when the new supplier catalogs come out.
I carry Gerber, and like their equipment a lot. Their philosophy of self-reliance meshes with mine. I use a Suspension multi plier myself. I like the mid-size format... lighter & easier to use I find.
I have one of the Gerber LMF II survival knives, but for most of my outdoor activities, I take the much more subtle SL Pro survival knife by ToolLogic (fire edition).

What is your top pick, and what do you look for?

I think the general consensus is that Victorinox and Leatherman make the best, and most usable products, but you really can't go wrong with most of the big 5 :)
Give in, buy several Farmer's!!!!!!

Sounds like your well equip't. I've a variety of tools nothing approaching a big collection like some, but very modest.
My other hobby is Amateur Radio so when I head into the field to install Antennas I usually take my Gerber
600 for the simplicity and ease of plier head extraction.
I also quite like the Leatherman Charge series with their outside opening cutlery.  I enjoy this forum,
Lot's of helpful, knowledgeable folk where you don't have to sport "thick skin" to survive and enjoy.
I am a bit of a knife nut so most of the funds get moved in that direction.
