Blimey tony well done. I thought I had done well today. There was an old feller there who used to work for various cutlery firms around these parts and from what he was shifting used to bring a bit of work home with him most days.  I picked up two steels which just need handles.  Got a few other bits and pieces including my first ever car boot sak. It was in a real sorry state however it is looking better after a wash and oil bath.  Once it has had a polish it will be ready for its after pics

Thanks mate. After cleaning it all up only the main blade was missing the very tip, so little that I reprofiled it using the diamond file on a juice. The liners are also not too pretty but do the job. I have stuck on an old back scale I had in the bit box. It makes for a good user and as well as giving me tinkering time it only cost me 50p.

Ok, so i joined this forum a few days ago and thought it was great. Then i found this thread! Aaarrghh now im addicted lol. Ill get a few of my car boot finds together and take pics. No SAKS of major knife finds though.  :( Ive been through the posts and keep seeing a lot of farriers hoof rasps showing up. I think its because once we finish with them we tend to give them to customers. Not that they are redundent but just not really much use to us as they arnt sharp enough for us to use. As i said great site.  :)

I grab all the farriers rasps I can as they will come in handy when I get my little forge running..... one day  ::)

Hi phil
Welcome to what has become pretty much mine and tonies personal thread!  Just to second what tony said old files are a perfect source of metal for turning into knives.

I should have just said 'can you lend me a couple of files to sharpen my horse please Phil?'

Kicked by a horse.  Had a few lash out at me.  If you look at YouTube for file knife you will find quite a few examples.

Well first you have to tell us what you're doing for us to tell you what you're doing wrong. ;)

If you're trying to attach pic to your post, click the + at Attachments and other options, then Choose file (and choose the pic you want to post) and click Post. If you're posting a pic from an outside source click , paste the link to the image in the pop up window and click OK.

Paul,
It is Mate and its still got your name on it …....  just waiting for the right time to get my 'forge' up and running  ::)

I think I've broken either my computer, photobucket or the interweb as I can't seem to upload pictures to photobucket

Picked up some odds and ends today but best of all were
Two BAKs (that I paid too much for  )
And a rusty Elwell billhook that needs a new handle (probably paid too much  )

One of the BAKs is this one  ;)

Nice additions. :tu: What handle are you planning to make for the billhook? Something traditional or will you be using that micarta you were playing with?
