I'm in a good mood today.  The derelict laptop carcass I picked up at the weekend has been brought back to life.  I didn't expect much for my two quid.  It looked like it had been used as a doorstop .... for a cow shed!

I bought it on the off chance that I might get a working memory stick out of it for another old machine.  However after stripping it down and washing most of it (yes, in a sink) and very thorough cleaning and drying its now fully functional if a little scratched up.

Important note to anyone ditching old computer kit/camera/phones.  Delete your data!  ::)  I ran dban over this thing's hard drive before doing a fresh OS install, no way it was touching my network the state it was in!

Did I mention I was happy :D

By the way if anyone has any laptop sticks of DDR (not DDR2) kicking around please feel free to throw them my way ;)
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

I picked up this kitchen knife a few days ago  :)

Made by Rockingham Forge

The edge had taken a battering but I have managed to take most of the dinks out with my Lansky system  :tu:
I will be using this one in the kitchen to see how well the edge holds up as it feels very nice in my hand

Don't panic Neil, he's going to rehandle it with an old chair leg and make a sheath out a Reliant Robin first.
Looking forward to the results mate  :tu: :P >:D >:D

Not a SAK in sight  :ahhh

But I did pick up...
A butchers chopping block
A couple of mess tins
A couple of rusty old files
A pair of sheep shears and a nice little Ax,
I think this is a younger version of the one that went to live with Al

I see your rusty files and raise you a feeler gage, depth gauge a bunch of little hammers and ... and ... a genuine SAK.  Admittedly just a Classic... with advertising.  But a SAK none the less :D

In general this morning was very good.  Though I am a little pink; funny weather for October

I miss the UK car boot sales.....
All we get here is some charity shops and some "antique" shops thinking any old metal is Gold...  :(

I was pretty chuffed to find the adjustable pair, very useful and cost twelve to thirteen quid normally (or around that in dollars if you're in the US ::) ).

The little Stirex ones are kind of hard core tweezers rather than pliers but very useful if you don't have SAK pliers to hand :P

Just finished cleaning up some long handled Knipex cutters I got the other month.  They are excellent and are now my first choice for brass rod chopping :D

What happens was that I had a couple of guys, who worked from a site in London, come up to visit me to assist in installing a new bit of kit.  One thing they forgot to bring was any cutters and so had to borrow mine. ::)  Blowing up my cutters wasn't the only mistake they made, they also totally under-specified the sized of compressor and air receiver needed and the poor wee thing seized solid within a couple of days.  Needless to say I didn't feel the need to invite them back any time.
