Park Tool Backpack
on: June 19, 2010, 02:00:06 AM
I'm starting a mobile guitar repair business and came across this bad boy.  Well worth the $114 and I can even fit my full size weller iron and 9-volt drill in from the top.  Super sturdy zippers and good quality feel.

There is a video on this page showing how to set it up

Interesting . Jensen tools and CLC also make tool backpacks , might be worth a look . Is it comfortable to carry when loaded up ? The price seems pretty good , the aforementioned examples were a lot more .

The fold open workstation approach is unique , other variations on the theme are designed to lay on their backs and open like books .

It is very cool because it is stiff as hell all around and feels sturdy.  The way the weight is distributed it won't fall over easily.   It is not bad at all wearing it on the back and beats the hell out of the multiple contraptions I would have to lug around for all these options.  I could probably do a service call on my bike with this rig!

Very impressive , I'm tempted . As a road warrior , I usually carried Jensen or Pelican cases with pallets , they cost a fortune , were heavy as hell , and looked very stealable . That rig flies right under the Radar .

Guitar tech.... man, that's a job I wanted for the longest time.

In fact, a little known fact about me is that I was actually accepted into the very limited Luthier course at the Atlanta Institute of Music.  I was all set to go, and had little else going for me in life at the time, but tragically I was unable to come up with funding for it and had to pass.  These days I'm usually one of the first people the folks at the bar call when something needs fixing, whether it's a bar fridge or repairing an active pickup system on stage while the rest of the band keeps playing!

I always wanted to get one of these to both play and tinker with:

That is a shame about that course Grant- I absorbed as much as possible over the years but do not consider myself a luthier.  I specialize in electric guitars and tube amps.  That guitar looks like a handful to keep in shape!  I guess it could not be any worse than the Line6 modelling guitars I built.

Yeah, it's too bad.  If shipping guitars wasn't such a pain in the hiney I'd probably troll pawn shops and Kijiji for decent instruments, fix them up and upgrade them to re-sell them.  I'd do that more for the fun than the profit.  I've also thought about building some of my own from scratch.  I have a friend at the top of the local (major) industrial sound and lighting company, and he knows everyone in the music business- big names as well as not so big names.  I don't think it would be hard to get my name out if I had a decent product!

Got any pics of your guitars?  :D

My 2 main guitars are a 00 Les Paul Classic and an 06 Eric Johnson Strat.  The shredder is a parts guitar made from a 80's MIJ strat body and a 80's ESP neck.  The amp is a handwired Marshall Plexi conversion I did myself.
