Just bought a Nalgene water bottle
on: July 11, 2010, 05:04:08 AM
In my bid to get in shape for the Hotter n Hell 100 mile bike tour i bought a Nalgene water bottle @ Academy. I'm trying to cut down on cola and crap food. By leaving my pocket shrapnel at the abode and bring my water bottle for lunch with water or tea in it i'll be forced to reduce my soft drink vices.

The thing is well built, BPA free and made in the US.

[edit] I just ordered the blue Nalgene 500ml (Narrow) for myself and the pink one for my youngest girl..[/edit]  :)

Good idea. I tend to drink not enough, too. I have a camelbak better bottle, which helps me a lot to drink more, but it has only 500 ml. I need a larger one.

Nalgene bottles are nice.  I use both Nalgene and Camelbak and they've completely replaced all those plastic bottles I used to [foolishly] buy.

So Pacu, which one is you?  ;)

I looked at the Nalgene, Camelbak and other bottles when I got my Maxpedition Jumbo, but went for a 500ml SIGG in the end. I just figure the SIGG will keep the water cool for slightly longer than the Nalgene, but mostly I just think it looks cooler :D

I've saved a fortune on bottled water, fizzy drinks and coffee since I started carrying it around with me.
I used to come here a lot.

Having a Nalgene bottle is essential.  I always have my 32 oz bottle with me at work.

copy that I do have the 32oz small neck.

btw for those who dont know. the nalgene bottles are sized to fit most common water filters. the good backpacking filters, not the little ones that go on your tap.
i started carrying nalgene bottles when i was a 10 year old boy scout backpacker. its now 7 years since i was a scout and 2 years since my last backpack trip but i still have the nalgene bottles.

Mike they have some great looking bottles and I really like the way their website is written. Thanks for the link, I will be buying a few of those tomorrow and some of the neoprene jackets too.

I have a Camelbak bottle that is about ready to be retired, but I totally buy into the idea of carrying your own water to cut back on drinking fizzy drinks.

I have a 12oz Kleen Kanteen that I got as a gift from another forum member.  I keep it filled with water on my nightstand because I often get thirsty at night and I don't like leaving an open topped glass where it's likely to get knocked over by fumbling fingers.

Wait, there's people who don't know what a Nalgene bottle is? :D

I've had a 1L Nalgene with me at all times since middle school. First time I probably encountered them would be through my sister's altheletic competitions. Cheap and indestructible is all I could ask for. :)
Got those frog legs.

the nalgene bottles were designed to work with portable water filters, I have yet to find another bottle that can maintain quality and do that. Nalgene definitely takes the win.

My friends rave about kleen canteens.  I am adding one to the list of things I want.  Doesn't mean I'll be able to get it anytime soon, but it's there!

I did the same thing with dropping soft drinks about a year ago. Now I only drink water, sometimes juice, and sometimes a Red Bull if I'm tired (don't drink coffee, or alcohol for that matter). I couldn't find any water bottles that fulfilled my requirements: insulated, sports cap/can be opened with one hand and minimum 0.7L. The closest I came was the Camelbak Insulated Stainless Better Bottle which is only 0.5L. So, I made my own! Bottle cap that is. I had a 0.7L insulated bottle but it had a screw-on cap, so I made a sports cap out of it. I think people who use non-insulated bottles have never tried insulated ones... I work outside in the sun all summer and I can put ice cubes in at 6AM and still have some left at 1PM after countless water refills and the bottle being in direct sunlight all day.

Here's my current semi-DIY bottle: http://andreasodegard.com/2010/07/diy-water-bottle-sports-cap/
