I actually meant to write 'wrist watch'  :D  But somehow my phone thought it was a good idea to correct that...

Edit: strange thing - is it the forum software that does not allow for that word spelled in one word? Trying again: wrissmurfch

Not an SAK, but I've been wanting one of these vintage Victorinox parts boxes for a while.  I found an old style army-and-navy store that was willing to let theirs to, so am pretty happy :D.  I'm particularly pleased that it has a decent number of the A.2757 springs (top-left compartment), which are the small-eye version for scissors on the 84mm knives, and pre-1974 91mm knives.  I recently enquired at the Victorinox store in London if they were available and was told they aren't.  And it has a few of everything else, which is nice.

Spotted that the contents of the lower right and the upper right-of-middle compartments have contents switched over  :-[.  Also affects the "Contents" photo - same swap needed there.  See pic here if clarification needed: https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,89337.msg2482958.html#msg2482958.

My Companion helped me to open the mail today. I scored a new in box 1989 Wenger Soldier model. It's in absolute mint condition as well as the paper box it comes in. Never saw a box in this condition with a 30+ year old SAK.

I really should slow down my pace, but when I get the chance to get a good deal on a 61 Soldier model, I can't say no . This one was 50 EUR shipped which is a fantastic price for today in my opinion, especially for this condition. At least that's what I tell my wife   :D  Good thing with collecting the Alox Soldier is that no one notices when you get a new one

I gotta confess my purchases this week. Had 6 SAKs incoming. Even the wife only knows about one or two. Luckily they all look the same to her.
[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Here's how it went (from left to right)
  • No 1: '96 Victorinox Soldier, new with box. I was browsing eBay on the weekend (financial advice: don't do that!) and saw that Soldiers in new condition are getting more and more scarce and expensive. I still feel that I overpaid a little for this one (100 EUR shipped), but I saw that well used ones are up for sale in the same price range. FOMO came up and I pulled the trigger as I didn't want to miss out on a good knife. Originally, I intended to just buy this knife.
  • No. 2-5: a couple of days earlier I purchased a NIB '89 Wenger Soldier. I was browsing the flea market platform (financial advice: don't do that!) and saw that the seller had another SAK up for sale. Got in touch with him to ask what else he might sell. He happened to have two more '89 Wengers in NIB condition and a '86 Victorinox Soldier with WK stamp, also in new condition but without box.

He also had a Wenger Traveler with a "Ciba-Geigy" print on the back scale. It's a knife that commemorated the opening of a new research and production facility of the pharmaceutical company that later became Novartis near Basel, Switzerland. It's a funny coincidence, because my very first SAK that I got from my grandfather was the exact same Wenger model with a CIBA-GEIGY print. So I also had to get it... Paid 150 EUR for the whole lot - it was basically 50 EUR per Soldier and the Wenger for free. I feels that's a good deal.
  • No. 6: Victorinox Old Cross Pioneer in like new condition. I browsed through the sales platform again (financial advice: don't do that!), especially searching for "wrong" or generic keywords. That's how I came across this knife. It seemed to be in excellent condition and was up for sale for 120 EUR. That's pretty expensive in my opinion, but in the same price range I have only seen very worn models before (when advertised as Old Cross). I've seen another mint one priced at 250 EUR. So I thought I should buy it when I have this opportunity. ("They're not getting cheaper...")

I hope that's it for the next months. Currently have two new 58mm Signature models coming in the mail, but they barely count!

Some more detail shots of the OC Pioneer. Maybe someone can help me guess what production year range it may be from? It seems to have a brass liner but already the newer cap lifter with the wire bender notch.

Not sure whether it's a small or big V on the tang stamp as I haven't seen many...

Definitely small. I'll get a photo of the big V tang stamp so you have something to compare yours to.

You've made some terrific additions lately. If you keep going at this rate, you'll be ready for the Wenger Collector Level III badge next month!

The joy of hunt that is so difficult to share with anyone outside this forum.

Great additions. All of them are great and the mint OC is simply perfect.

I already have a couple of 93mm Alox with Scissors, an Old Cross Farmer plus scissors and an Aloxplorer. Both of which are mods I built a few years ago, by which I  mean more like 10 years ago.
But I never got round to building a simple three layer "Pioneer-Plus".

Well, it's my birthday coming up in a couple of months and I spotted a reasonable price deal (for here at least) on Amazon for a 2023 LE Pioneer-X in Electric Yellow.  Well, happy early birthday to me.

Sure, I could have bought a plain silver one for 2/3 the price... or built one from a Pioneer that I already have plus a pair of 91mm scissors and break down one of the couple of Solos that I have for a spring,  but it wouldn't be this almost fluorescent lemon yellow which, to parrot almost all the online reviews, pictures or video does not do justice. It's BRIGHT!

First SAK in a long time that has given me a little love bite the first time I handled it... I guess it owns me now.

Ok, I see. I've looked at my '86 Soldier and a '96 Soldier. The '86 has the same tang stamp as the OC Pioneer (small V) and the '96 has a slightly larger V. Because of the brass liners I would date this knife to 1980-85?

Wenger Badge Lvl 3 might not happen (just 1 knife away from it at the moment). I'm thinking about selling 2-3 Celidor Wengers. I'm not sure if I should keep all three '89 Wenger Soldiers, but let's see. I love admiring them at the moment

Great addition PRTSAK!  :like: It's always good to treat yourself once in a while. I've seen the color in a store once, it's definitely bright  8)

Scored two 58mm Signature models for 15 EUR each. Couldn't resist, because that's my go-to model to accompany my Alox knives. Because tweezers, a pen, scissors and a nail file are a must for me. So it complements Alox knives perfectly.

I don't understand why Victorinox discontinued this one.... One might be used to upgrade my Rambler and one is a spare.

I've been after a Victorinox Watch Opener for a little while to add to the range of tools to explore the uses of.  Would have been handy in about 1992 when someone borrowed the 84mm Tinker from my desk without me knowing and snapped the tip off the small blade while presumably trying to open something >:(.

Found some brand new ones to scratch that itch. I found the fact that box has no markings for part number, etc minorly interesting.

If anyone in UK wants one I bought an extra which I've listed for sale to contribute to forum funds: https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,92599.0.html.

With everyone showing off their shiny new SAKs, all of which are beautiful, I picked up an old war horse off of the eBay.
The seller was truthful by saying that the Alox scales on the black ALCAN Executive were in Poor condition.  The listing also said that the blades were in good condition and had good snap.
I waited patiently and it came in yesterday afternoon.
One look at it confirmed his assessment.  I have no idea of what could have happened to them other than perhaps it was dropped into a rock crusher.  Thing is the blades/tools looked good and the springs were really good too.   The blades even appeared to have the factory edge.So I borrowed a nail file from the Boss Lady and smoothed out the damaged areas as best I could.  I thought about trying a resto but I think that it needs to show it's battle scars.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, ACE. The ALCAN Executive.

The tools on Ace are so pristine that I am beginning to wonder if it is the scales oxidizing. Like a neglected aluminum pot. Nice find anyway. Best wishes. G

I don't know, Gary.
My first thought was someone took a set of pliers and tried to see how much damage they could do.  The problem with that theory is that the damaged areas aren't parallel to each other.
Second guess was some type of acid that ate away the aluminum as there was some erosion on the inside area also.
Id really like to know the answer though.
Either way, I've about got the hot spots fixed.  Next step is to make him a little case to stay in.

Just received this SAK.  I am confused as to which model.  When I look at SAKWiki 91mm 2 layer, it looks like a Compact, but then I look at an early Golfer this knife seems to meet that definition.

This is a 91mm, 2 layer, screw scissors with no spring groove, grooved corkscrew, keyring is a “separate” piece from the divider, solid scales,  no hook, no pin hole, and a pen.

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

If it is pre-hook then that'd make it a Golfer, as described in the lineage under History on the Wiki Compact page.  It has its own page too: https://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Golfer+91mm.
